Ince eyeing Molineux hot-seat

Paul Ince should on Wednesday formally enter the race to become the new manager of Wolves Ince, 38 - who has captained Wolves for the last four years - wants to make his first move into management as the successor to Glenn Hoddle. Former England boss Hoddle resigned last weekend, and Ince has quickly emerged as the man Wolves fans want to fill the hot-seat. His agent Steve Kutner has written to Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey. Kutner last night said of Ince: "Because he has had such overwhelming support from the fans, I have drawn up a letter confirming he would like to be considered for the manager's position. "Paul is flattered that people would like him to be the next manager of Wolves." Ince will be one of more than 20 applicants for the post, and Moxey said: "At the moment we are talking to him about playing for us again next season. "I will make him a final offer on the playing contract, and then we will address the other issue. "But Paul has made it clear he would be honoured to be considered for the manager's job." Ince has no managerial experience but has played for England, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Middlesbrough during a 21-year career. Moxey is keen to make a swift appointment, with the start of the new season little more than a month away, and he added: "As far as I am concerned we have to move quickly." Hoddle's departure from Wolves has, by his own standards, been a relatively quiet one. Hoddle kept the announcement he was ending his 19-month tenure as Wolves manager comparatively low key, simply stating: "My expectations and the club's have drifted too far apart and this decision has been made early for the benefit of the club." The former England boss met with Moxey yesterday to clarify his reasons for a decision which had left the Molineux supremo "disappointed and angry". The meeting exposed two major reasons for Hoddle's resignation; concerns over the club's budget and how he would be allowed to spend it, and the revelation that he "did not feel 100% behind the job", according to Moxey. Wolves fans suspicious of Hoddle eyeing a job elsewhere may have had their fears eased by the outcome of the meeting and Moxey himself accepted Hoddle's "version of events". Moxey told the club's official website: "When Glenn signed his contract 12 months ago, it was made clear that if we did not win promotion, because of the loss of parachute money and a likely fall in season ticket sales, the budget going into this season would have to be reduced." Moxey added of Hoddle: "He told me he has not had any other [job] offers. That is something we will address if it happens." If Hoddle decides to make a swift return to work, the managerial hotseat at Sunderland sits vacant, awaiting a coach with Premiership experience to take the club forward under the ownership of Niall Quinn's consortium

Mark Kennedy to Palace - Eagles to snap up free agent Kennedy

Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor is set to bring experienced Wolves midfielder Mark Kennedy to Selhurst Park on a free transfer. The Republic of Ireland international has turned down a new two-year deal at the club, and new Eagles boss Peter Taylor wants Kennedy as the club aim for promotion back to the Premiership. Kennedy was once the most expensive teenager in British football when he moved from Millwall to Liverpool in 1995 for £2.5million. He has made 187 ppearances for Wolves, scoring 14 goals.

Meanwhile Carl Cort’s brother Leon, having made the move to Palace, says how great it would be to play together and is encouraging Carl to make the move.

Kevin Nicholls

Wolves are rumoured to have put a £400,000 offer in for Luton captain and combatative midfielder Kevin Nicholls. The 27 year old has a good goalscoring record and scored the equaliser against us at Kenilworth Road last season.

Kevin appears to be interested but will only make his mind up after the Wolves’ manager appointment is made.

Stepehen Pearson

Wolves have also been named in Scotland as one of the Championship clubs tailing another left-side man, Celtic's Stephen Pearson. But the 23-year-old is also being linked to Crystal Palace and Derby.

Martin Swain on Hoddle - “thanks for nothing!”

Thanks for nothing
By Martin Swain
July 3, 2006

http://www.expressandstar.com/articles/sport/wolves/article_91576.php

Glenn Hoddle has walked away from Wolves and left the club to clear up a mess of his own making.

And it says everything about his tortuous regime at Molineux that the news of his departure has been greeted with an overwhelming sense of relief.  Not just among supporters, who have struggled to warm to a man who kept his distance and were left distinctly underwhelmed by the football his team delivered.
But inside the club, too. The chance to embark on a fresh path, which offers peril and opportunity in equal measure, is now before Wolves and doubts had been growing that Hoddle truly relished the task - or was right for it.  For some time now, Wolves and Hoddle have been a couple heading for a break-up but unwilling to talk about it. Divorces, after all, are a messy and expensive business. Now the manager has instigated proceedings and suddenly everyone is admitting they are surprised they stayed together for so long.
His resignation confirms the collapse of a grand vision. Wolves thought they had secured a manager whose high profile and high footballing principles seemed perfect for Premiership ambitions. What they got was a regime as fruitless and disappointing as any of modern times. From the moment Hoddle was recruited on that controversial temporary contract, Wolves fans have been suspicious of his commitment to the club.  The nature of his resignation suggests they were right. It reveals a scant affection for the gold and black and a lack of willpower to see through a job which has changed dramatically, mainly because of his own failings.
Hoddle rang Jez Moxey to inform him of his decision while the Chief Executive was relaxing in World Cup-mode with his family in Weston Park on Saturday afternoon.  Within moments, the Hoddle camp had released the news to the outside world ensuring the club remained off guard and embarrassed. Those are not the actions of a man enamoured with his employers.
Maybe he had not forgiven Moxey for dismissing the failed promotion campaign as "a complete disaster" in those cutting end-of-season programme notes. But fretting over Hoddle's motivations are the least of Wolves problems. The timing is dreadful because, in waiting until now to quit, managers Wolves would have been eager to pursue have settled future employment. Principle among those were Paul Simpson, snaffled by Preston after his Carlisle successes, and Iain Dowie, who quit Crystal Palace and made that controversial switch to Charlton. The weeks that have idled by before this sudden turn in events have been costly in the transfer market, too. One of the clues within Molineux of Hoddle's growing lack of appetite for the tough battle that now confronts his successor was a reluctance to make decisions in the transfer market. Wolves have watched their rivals snap up lower divison bargains - now a prime directive for a Molineux manager - while the wrangling with current players dragged on.  Hoddle's statement infers that he feels the budgetary goalposts have been moving during this period.
"It's been a difficult decision but I feel my expectations and the club's expectations have drifted too far apart," he said.
If that is the case, it will be furiously denied by the Molineux hierarchy who claim that the precise nature of the financial restrictions heading his way were outlined at the end of season de-brief board meeting.
Hoddle, whose own salary was cut from £600,000 to £400,000 as a result of the promotion failure, gave an unconvincing performance at a press conference the day after that session with the directors. His tone was guarded and devoid of enthusiasm and, crazily, he insisted his own future had never been on the agenda.
And yet all the briefings from Molineux, and the official statement which followed, made it clear it was. That laid before the public another glaring example of the growing distance between  boardroom and managerās office. It was followed by an abortive attempt by his agent to get Hoddle into the post vacated by Alan Curbishley at Charlton.  "Thanks but no thanks," was the response from The Valley but Wolves, aware of their managerās interest, were inevitably going to take that as a signal of his growing disenchantment with the new rigours of the Molineux post.
But there is one final, curious twist - one which perhaps reveals that despite all this Hoddle's decision was not ruthlessly plotted - which came only last week. His staff, including brother Carl and his fitness coach Kunle Odetoyinbo signed new contracts which, in line with the club's cost-trimming, including a smaller settlement fee in the event of their sacking. If they do fall by the wayside in a management re-structure, they will not thank their immediate gaffer.
Wolves, shorn of money other than what they earn, now need a man of high energy capable of inspiration one minute and sniffing out a bargain the next, living on his wits, mindful of his budget and hungry to mould a team its fan base will recognise.
And Wolves' research reveals that, by and large, their's is a club followed by hard-grafting, down-to-earth working-class folk who can spot the shirkers and poseurs from a country mile.
For some one out there, it will be an exciting chance. Wolves are in for a fight now but it's one which could give the club fresh unity and a real sense of purpose.
Hoddle walked away from it and that, more than anything, is the saddest indictment of his reign and his character.

Royal Seol Ki-Hyeon - Transfer Fee Agreed with Reading

Wolves have agreed a fee with Reading for the sale of Seol Ki-Hyeon.

The deal will be £1mil plus £500,000 depending on appearances. There is also a sell-on clause.
The Korean international, who has recently been on World Cup duty, could make the switch to the newly promoted Premiership side when he returns to England early next week.
"We have agreed a fee but the deal will of course be subject to a medical," says Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey.

Seol, 27 signed for Wolves for £1.2 mil from RSC Anderlecht in August 2004. His contract at Molineux would have expired in the summer of 2008. Last season he made 36 appearances (ten from the bench) and scored four goals. Whilst with his national team in Germany, Seol recently expressed his frustration with Wolves not winning promotion to the top flight.
Jez adds: "Seol is a good person and a good player but he never made the impact on the pitch that we were hoping when we signed him from Anderlecht. "He has publicly and privately expressed his wish to leave Wolves to play in the Premier League. We had two offers from Premiership clubs and some interest from Germany as well, but it was Reading who offered a deal that both the player and Wolves found acceptable.

"We wish him well."
Seol will go down in Wolves history as the scorer of the 7,000th goal as Wolves were the first team to reach that number when he scored from a cross at Crystal Palace in 2005.

Blues and City join race for McLeod

Manchester City and Birmingham have joined West Brom and Wolves in the race to sign highly-rated MK Dons striker Izale McLeod. Blues boss Steve Bruce is in the hunt for fresh blood having released a raft of players following the club's relegation. And although City chief Stuart Pearce is on the verge of recruiting veteran Paul Dickov on a free transfer, he wants the pace of McLeod to provide back-up for Darius Vassell. Birmingham-born McLeod is widely expected to leave the National Hockey Stadium this summer after his 18 goals proved not enough to save the Dons from relegation to League Two. And his form has attracted envious glances from a string of clubs, including Black Country rivals Wolves and the Baggies. The 21-year-old almost became a Wolves player in January after they agreed a £600,000 deal, rising to £1.3m, with Milton Keynes before switching their attention to Tomasz Frankowski. But boss Glenn Hoddle has continued to monitor McLeod's progress and wants him to spearhead a promotion charge at Molineux. Albion boss Bryan Robson, meanwhile, feels the England Under-21 international could form an explosive partnership with Nathan Ellington, as veteran forwards Kanu and Kevin Campbell could well leave The Hawthorns this summer.

Glenn Hoddle resigns

1st July 2006 - as England exit the World Cup Glenn Hoddle phones Moxey to resign.  Although they are meeting on Monday this may also spell the end for Paul Ince unless he’s offered the job.

Statement from Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey re manager Glenn Hoddle.

"I had an unexpected call from the manager Glenn Hoddle at about 3 o'clock this afternoon (Saturday). He told me he was resigning with immediate effect. "I asked him to reconsider but he said that his mind was made up. However, he did agree to meet with me on Monday. "We will issue a further statement in due course."

In a statement released by his representatives to the media this afternoon, Glenn is reported saying: "I wish to announce my decision, with immediate effect, to resign as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.  "It has been a very difficult decision but I feel that my expectations and the club's expectations have drifted too far apart in recent weeks. This decision has been made early in pre-season for the benefit of the club.
"I would like to take the opportunity of thanking the board, players, staff and fans for their support and efforts and wish everyone connected with Wolverhampton Wanderers every success in the future."

More about Glenn’s record is here Glenn Hoddle page

Vice Captain Mark Kennedy offered new deal

Wolves have confirmed they have offered a new contract to Republic of Ireland winger Mark Kennedy The 30-year-old has been a key figure during his five years at Molineux, but is out of contract at the end of June. And chief executive Jez Moxey said: "A new offer has been made to Mark Kennedy. He is currently considering his options but he wants to get his future resolved. "Hopefully that might be done over the next fortnight," he told the club's official website.

Brazilians Soares & Finkler

Brazilians Jay Soares and Guilherme Finkler who both are available on “frees” have impressed in training and Finkler scored twice in the friendly at Hednessford.  watch the free kick  more on WoW site

Peter Whittingham

Wolves are reported to have made a £500,000 bid for Aston Villa midfielder Peter Whittingham who burst on the scene two seasons ago but has been rather quiet recently.  He does seem a good replacement for Mark Kennedy, if he also has good defensive skills....his full debut was at left back Villa’s profile of him....

Peter Whittingham
Nationality:  English
Date of Birth:  08/09/1984
Height:5' 10" (178cm)Weight:9st 13lbs (63.1kg)
Previous Clubs:Derby County (loan), Burnley (loan)Position:Midfielder
Having exploded on to the Premiership scene the previous year, it was very much a case of treading water for Peter Whittingham in 2004-05.
The promising young midfielder was regularly in the squad during the first half of the season, and although he made only a handful of starting appearances he was regularly involved as a substitute.
But after being on the bench for the New Year bank holiday game at Crystal Palace, he didn't figure again in the senior side and at one stage spent a month on loan at Championship club Burnley.
While his first team appearances were limited, though, he did at least have the satisfaction of creating a
small piece of Premiership history when he opened the scoring in the 3-0 home win over Portsmouth. It was the first goal scored with the new high visibility ball which was used during the winter months.
Whittingham made a real impact in David O'Leary's first season at the helm. The England Under-21 international may have ended the campaign on the bench, but he impressed as he started 21 of the first 22 Premiership games before being withdrawn from the spotlight. But time is definitely on Whittingham's side and the hope is that he can build on an impressive first full season that saw him named Villa's Young Player of the Year.Whittingham became the fourth member of the FA Youth Cup-winning team to discover the number was up - in the best possible way. The versatile youngster joined Stefan Moore, Liam Ridgewell and Wayne Henderson in being handed a first team squad number as the club continued to encourage youngsters to make the breakthrough to Premiership football. He signed a four year contract in 2002 and was a regular in the reserves before making the first team bench, coming on for three consecutive games against Newcastle United, Everton and Sunderland before playing his first first team full game at left back against Leeds United.

Blues to spark Calum scramble

Birmingham are ready to battle with Charlton, Reading and Wolves for the signature of Tottenham centre-back Calum Davenport Blues boss Steve Bruce is expected to follow up his initial interest in the Spurs player with a firm bid. The £1.5million-rated defender is keen to resurrect his career after an unhappy spell at White Hart Lane. Davenport has found first-team opportunities hard to come by because of the form of England pair Ledley King and Michael Dawson at the heart of the Spurs defence. However, Blues could face competition from the Addicks, Royals and Wolves for the 23-year-old

Squad down to 14 fit pros - Steve Marshall of the Express & Star

Wolves back with just fourteen
By Steve Marshall
Jun 23, 2006         http://www.expressandstar.com/articles/sport/wolves/article_91410.php
Wolves are poised to return to pre-season training on Monday with only 14 fit outfield players with Molineux first team experience on their books.
It paints an all too real picture of the summer culture change at the club that chief executive Jez Moxey warned about when Wolves' Championship chalenge crumbled last season. A total of 17 senior players are currently contracted to Wolves, but Matt Murray and Michael Oakes are both goalkeepers and defender Gabor Gyepes could miss the whole campaign through injury. That leaves 14 - but with question marks over the future of Seol Ki-Hyeon, who has spelled out his desire to move to the Premiership after the World Cup, and the fitness of Seyi Olofinjana and Mark Clyde. Olofinjana is currently recovering from a back injury which wrecked his last campaign, while Clyde hasn't kicked a ball for the first team in almost 17 months.

And although the squad is bolstered by nine untried academy youngsters, it leaves boss Glenn Hoddle thin on the ground in terms of experience when he returns after his summer break. Re-signing captain Paul Ince and vice-captain Mark Kennedy would help add vital knowhow to the ranks - but Kennedy in particular is by no means certain to agree new terms.
Moxey today Wolves' situation meant the club's youngsters would get the chance to prove their worth, but insisted they were looking to recruit new faces before the new season kicks-off. "When you buy lots of players there is less opportunity for the youngsters," said Moxey. "But we are now faced with a situation where we won't put football before finance, so by definition the young kids have more of a chance prove themselves to the manager and stake a claim for a place in the team. "We recognise that the squad we are starting pre-season with won't be sufficient in numbers because of the injuries and suspensions that we will inevitable face. "As a result Glenn and I will be looking to bring in several players before the season starts." Nine players from last season's squad have so far left Wolves, with the sale of Joleon Lescott to Everton the only transfer fee coming in. Hoddle has been promised some of that cash for his playing budget, but will be unable to go on a big-money spending spree.

Here's how some of Wolves' rivals measure up:
* Albion - 16 senior players contracted, trying to retain Campbell and Watson and sign Hartson and Roberts.
* Blues - 20 senior players, including new signings Jerome and Danns.
* Leeds - 20 senior players
* Sunderland - 20 senior players.
* Palace - 21 senior players.

Milan Mandaric Rumours

Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric has denied he is planning a £15million takeover of Wolves Mandaric has moved to end rumours of an approach for the Championship club by insisting a recent conversation with Wolves owner Sir Jack Hayward was only made as a friend. "I talk to Sir Jack Hayward regularly because we get on well. But it's only to chat," he told The News. "Because I'm selling Pompey, people have put two and two together. But I'm not in talks about buying into Wolves." Mandaric will hand over ownership of Pompey to Sacha Gaydamak this month after agreeing a £32million deal for the club, but may remain as non-executive chairman. The 67-year-old insists he has no immediate intention of investing in another club should he leave Fratton Park entirely, but that situation could change in the future. "If I leave Pompey altogether, then one day I might get involved with someone else. But it's not happening now," he added.

Ian Pearce

The 32-year-old has one year left on his current contract at Craven Cottage, but a summer move could be in the offing. Pearce moved to Fulham from West Ham in 2004 and has played an important part ever since. However, manager Chris Coleman is believed to be looking for fresh faces and Pearce could very well find himself surplus to requirement. Should Pearce be on the move then he is unlikely to be short on offers with Wigan, Wolves and Birmingham all reported to be considering a move

Wolves ace Silas set for Wolves exit

Portuguese midfielder Silas looks set to leave Wolves in the summer, after falling out of favour Molineux. The 29-year-old's current deal is due to run out and although Wolves have the option of extending it for another 12 months, chief executive Jez Moxey is expecting him to be released. Signed for £1million from Uniao Leiria in the summer of 2003, Silas managed just five starts and nine substitute appearances for Wanderers. And has not kicked a ball for the Midlanders since February 2004 after joining Maritimo and then Belenenses on season-long loans. Moxey said: "The option for the manager to sign Silas for next season is there. "But at this stage, I'd say it's highly unlikely that will happen."

Seol to move

Ki Hyeon Seol made his first appearance in the 2006 World Cup finals as a half time substitute for Eul-Yong against 98 champions, France.  Initially  deployed on the left wing he was non-existent. However a switch to the right brought him into the game and it was his cross in the 81st minute to the far post after beating Lilian Thuram which was headed back into the centre for Park Ji-Sung to  head the ball down to bounce over Barthez.   A 1-1 draw was a shock for France and it could have been worse if Thuram hadn’t blocked Seol’s shot a few minutes later.

Meanwhile the Express & Star ran a story over the weekend which said

Wolves wide man Seol Ki-Hyeon has admitted that he is hoping for a move out of Molineux after the World Cup.   The South Korean star, who had to settle for a place on the bench for his country's opening game against Togo, says he expects to join a Premiership club after a frustrating second season with Wolves. "At this stage I'm frustrated not to be in the Premiership," Seol said yesterday. "A few teams are interested in me and are talking to Wolves. "I think there will be some good news after the World Cup."

Seol was the subject of interest from Reading at the same time as the newly-promoted outfit made an unsuccessful bid for Joleon Lescott and there is little doubt that Wolves would be happy to unload the 27-year-old forward to generate vital cash for manager Glenn Hoddle.  "I would prefer to play in the Premiership," said Seol. "That's why I came to Wolves but we didn't succeed in getting promoted.  "I think there is still a possibility to go to the Premiership." Seol, who helped South Korea reach the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup, joined Wolves from Belgian club Anderlecht two years ago. Promoted Reading are among the clubs linked with Seol, whose South Korea team mates Park Ji-Sung and Lee Young-Pyo play in the top flight with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Meanwhlle Jez Moxey agreed that there was interest in him from several clubs, but expressed his unhappiness about stories like this coming out.  http://www.wolves.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10307~840608,00.html

Wolves complete deal for ace Rosa

Hungarian midfielder Denes Rosa has agreed a three-year deal to join Wolves on a permanent basis. The former Ferencvaros player, 29, had been on a short-term deal at Molineux since January and has impressed manager Glenn Hoddle sufficiently to earn a new deal. He told Wolves' official website: "I am very happy that I have been able to agree a new contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers. "I was aware of interest from other clubs but I have enjoyed my time at Wolves and was keen to stay. "I look forward to being part of a team that pushes for promotion next season." Rosa made 10 appearances for Wolves last term, scoring two goals.

Joleon Signs For Everton 14th June 2006

Fans are already asking why Joleon is worth only £2m upfront - only marginally more than flop Tomasz Frankowski - when Everton have only just paid £8.6m for Andy Johnson - it looks like a very very bad deal - giving us no strengthening cash freedom

From WoW. Joleon Lescott has finally completed his move from Wolves to Everton.
The Merseysiders will pay up to £5m, plus a 15% share of any sell-on fee, for the services of the defender who has signed a four-year contract at Goodison.
The move was initially delayed because key officials at Everton were away from the club, and then as a result of Everton's concern over the player's long term fitness.
However, after further negotiations, the transfer has now been completed with Wolves agreeing to defer the final instalment of the fee for an additional six months from the date initially agreed, and make it subject to the player not retiring from football within 30 months due to any pre-existing condition relating to his knee operations.
Chief executive Jez Moxey explained: "Wolves will receive £2m upfront, plus another £2m to be paid in instalments over the next two and a half years subject to Joleon continuing to play football. The remaining £1m is subject to player appearances."
Whilst satisfied with the commercial terms of the deal - which Wolves concede has taken a lot longer to conclude than expected - Jez acknowledged that the club was saying goodbye to a firm fans' favourite.
The CEO paid tribute to the 23-year-old, who has been a key player at Molineux since his debut in the 2000/2001 season, and explained how his transfer fee will support Wolves' finances following the loss of the parachute payment.
He said: "Joleon has given his all to Wolves since he joined our academy as a 14-year-old and if there's any player who deserves a chance to play in the Premier League, it's him.
"When he signed a new contract in October last season, we had a gentlemen's agreement that if we did not get promoted, and he wanted to join a Premiership club, then we would reluctantly sell him to the club that presented the best option for Joleon to further his career and one that could afford to pay us an acceptable transfer fee.
"Had we won promotion, Joleon would have happily stayed at Molineux. However, after we failed to achieve our stated goal of returning to the Premiership, we knew there would be interest from a number of top-flight clubs wishing to sign him. We were approached by four clubs who made serious offers and finally agreed a deal with Everton.
"Joleon has been an outstanding player for Wolves - we regret that he is leaving and that he never had the opportunity to play for Wolves in the Premier League in 2003/04 because had he been fit that season who knows where we would have finished. However, he returned to play in more games than any other Wolves player in the next two seasons, playing in all 50 matches last season. We have never had any doubts whatsoever about his fitness."
"He leaves with our very best wishes and thanks for everything he has helped Wolves achieve. He will, of course, be missed but we are sure he will develop into an exceptionally good Premiership player for Everton."
The fee received for the former England U21 international will be important, given the new financial parameters within which the club has to work.
Jez adds: "Bearing in mind the loss of the Premiership parachute payment the money raised through this transfer will help secure the club's financial stability.
"Our future strategy is clear: the team will have to include some younger players who really want to wear the Wolves shirt and prove themselves good enough to compete strongly in the Championship.
"No doubt some of the transfer fee will be used to support this aim and help us bring in new players but there is also a need to protect the club's overall financial position now and in the future."

Joleon & Everton/Sevilla

7th June: Joleon Lescott's move to Everton is getting closer. Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey this morning said he was hopeful it would be completed within the next 48 hours.
Joleon first travelled to Merseyside for a medical last Thursday after the clubs agreed a fee for the 23-year-old defender. But the delay in finalising his move from Molineux appears to be coming to an end and Joleon could finally be set for a move to the Premiership Jez says: "We are into the final details of the deal. I have been confident of this transfer being completed throughout and I'm optimistic it could be finalised in the next day or two."

6th June the up and down story Lescott deal hanging in balance

Wolves defender Joleon Lescott's move to Everton is not a done deal as the 23-year-old has still not signed a contract with the Toffees. Lescott agreed personal terms and passed a medical at Goodison Park last week, but Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has revealed Everton have requested more time with Lescott yet to sign a contract. "The ball is now in Everton's court," Moxey told the club's website. "Their medical team first saw Joleon on Thursday and then again on Friday. It is now Monday and transfers normally happen quicker than this. But Everton have informed us they want more time and we have to respect that." The clubs have already agreed an undisclosed fee for Lescott, which is believed to be in the region of £5million.

2nd June: Lescott set for Goodison switch

Everton are on the brink of taking their spending to over 14million in just 24 hours with the acquisition of Wolves defender Joleon Lescott The former England Under-21 international is currently on Merseyside having a medical and is expected to complete a 5.5million move.

Everton boss David Moyes hinted on Wednesday night another major signing was close and today chief executive Keith Wyness confirmed: "We have concluded our discussions with Wolves. Joleon has been given permission by his club to open talks with us and he will undergo a medical." A fee of around 5.5million has been agreed and Everton hope to conclude the formalities on Thursday and unveil their new signing for the media on Thursday. The 23-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks including Aston Villa, Newcastle and Spanish side Sevilla. Premiership newcomers Reading also registered an interest in the defender but their bid was rejected by the Wolves board earlier this month, allowing Moyes to step in and secure the services of one of the brightest young defensive talents in the country. A product of the club's youth system, Lescott missed out on the chance of Premiership football in 2003 when Wolves were in the top flight due to injury, but in total he has made 235 appearances and scored 13 league goals for the Championship outfit. He will be added to the signing of England squad striker Andrew Johnson, who moved to Goodison Park from Crystal Palace for 8.6million on Wednesday. Having already signed Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard on a season's loan, Moyes is clearly working hard to boost the club's chance of competing for a top-four spot in the Premiership, having dropped back into the bottom half of the table last term following their previous season's Champions League qualification. Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We have been in discussion with a number of clubs interested in signing Joleon and have agreed a transfer fee with Everton. "Joleon is this morning undergoing a medical examination and, subject to the outcome of that, we expect to conclude the transfer which will reflect the player's value."

1st June - the Daily Mail reports that, having signed Andy Johnson for £8.6m Everton willsign Joleon today for £4.5m after he underwent a medical yesterday.   Seems a discrepancy in vale there!!  The Wolves site later confirmed the transfer (but not the amount involved)

Sevilla have joined four Premiership clubs in the race to sign Wolves defender Joleon Lescott, who may be sold to generate transfer funds. The UEFA Cup winners, who beat Middlesbrough 4-0 to lift the trophy on Wednesday night, have joined Everton, Newcastle, Manchester City and Aston Villa in the hunt for the 23-year-old centre-back. Molineux boss Glenn Hoddle has been told he will have to operate on a tight budget this summer after the end of the club's 'parachute payments' following relegation from the Premiership two seasons ago. Hoddle has since released Darren Anderton, Stefan Postma, Maurice Ross and Vio Ganea - and knows he must sell in order to generate any cash for summer transfer action. Lescott is the jewel in Wolves' crown and would command a fee of around £4million, which is easily affordable for all of his suitors.Chief executive Jez Moxey said: "Most clubs go through a period of re-building at one time or another and our time is now, so we need the fans to understand the realities of working within a tighter budget."

Ince considering new contract offer

28th June:  after meeting with Moxey and Glenn on Monday, Paul Ince has not re-signed.  He is thought to be holding out for a similar deal as last season but Moxey has already said the deal is a reduced one. Talks are due to resume later in the week as the Wolves players return to training.  Moxey has said he wants this sorted before the squad go to Spain.

Paul Ince is still unsure whether he will be playing his football at Molineux next season and will meet with Jez Moxey to discuss a new deal  The 38-year-old is currently taking a residential course in applied management after which he leaves for a family holiday, and will not talk with Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey until he returns. "I've been offered a year and it's going to be a case of sitting down personally with Jez to see where we go," Ince told the Birmingham Mail. "I've only just come back from being away, I'm doing this course for a week and then I'm off on holiday for 11 days."After that I'll hopefully be able to speak to Jez and we can see how things stand." It is believed accepting the deal currently on the table would mean a substantial cut in wages for the Wolves skipper.  Last year Glenn Hoddle had to intervene after Moxey appeared to undervalue Paul in the contract offer.

Chris Cornes

Chris faces a six month ban after a random test at the training ground revealed traces of a cocaine substance.  The ban is backdated to April.   He strenuously denied knowingly taking a banned substance but the “strict liability” rules take no account of this.  His future at Molineux is now in doubt and will be considered at the next board meeting.  Chris looked a strong young prospect and we were looking forward to seeing him in the first team this season.

It was very pleasing to see that the board have decided to support Chris - whilst warning him severely about his future conduct and we look forward to seeing him in first team action this season.  His suspension lasts until October.

INCE, CAMS offered contracts

10th May 2006.   Wolves confirmed that both Colin Cameron and Paul Ince have been offered new contracts.  Both are out of contract but Cams had been told he was surplus to requirements.  3 Man-of- the-match performances on his recall from a loan spell at Millwall showed Glenn what everyone else who pays to see the Wolves knew. Cams’ agent says that Coventry are interested in him. Colin is fairly certain to be leaving Molineux this summer.

Molineux exits for Wolves quartet

Wolves have released Darren Anderton, Stefan Postma, Maurice Ross and Vio Ganea but are holding talks with Paul Ince about extending his stay.Wanderers confirmed this week that manager Glenn Hoddle would continue in his role despite the Black Country club missing out on the Championship play-offs. And the former England boss has decided to release 34-year-old former England international Anderton, ex-Aston Villa goalkeeper Postma, full-back Ross and Romania international Ganea. However, 38-year-old Ince and fellow midfielders Denes Rosa, Colin Cameron and Mark Kennedy - all out of contract this summer - will hold talks with the club. Chief executive Jez Moxey has warned Wolves will be forced to operate on a tight budget after the end of their 'parachute payments' following relegation from the Premiership two seasons ago, and said: "We will be entering into talks with Paul, Denes, Colin and Mark to explain our plans for the future but, at this stage, there are no guarantees that we will be re-signing any of them." Kenny Miller will join Celtic this summer on a Bosman free transfer and fellow striker George Ndah has been forced into early retirement because of injury.

Wolves looking to resolve Ince future

Veteren midfielder Paul Ince is hoping to resolve his Wolves future this week and has opened talks with about extending his stay at Molineux The 38-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of June, is understood to be very keen to sign a new deal with the Championship side. Chief executive Jez Moxey told Wanderers' official website: "We are going to try and move the situation forward this week. "I'm hoping to speak to Paul's agent today (Tuesday) and the manager will be speaking to Paul himself over the next few days."

Glenn Hoddle to remain as Wolves Manager (3May06)

Following Tuesday's board meeting, Glenn Hoddle will continue as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers
Football Club.

During a frank and honest discussion at the board meeting, Glenn clearly explained the reasons behind this season's disappointing results and out-lined how he will approach the difficult challenge of re-building the squad as a result of the club's need to operate within a reduced playing budget."It's no secret that the Board and Glenn are disappointed with the team's failure to secure automatic promotion or a play-off spot, especially as everyone was well aware of the likely financial restraints for next season if we didn't achieve promotion," said chief executive, Jez Moxey.
"That said, Glenn is a proven manager and the board feels confident that he has the skills needed to re-build the squad over the coming season. "During the meeting, we clearly articulated that the loss of the Premiership parachute payment means that there will be a reduced budget for next season. Glenn accepts this and is now looking at how best to shape his squad with the money available.
"We will sit down with out-of-contract players and back-room staff shortly to discuss what this means to their futures. This aside, a reduced budget will necessitate a re-definition of the club's approach to player
acquisition and inevitably lead to more opportunities for younger players from inside and outside the club. "Throughout this process, the club needs the support of its fans. Most clubs go through a period of re-building at one time or another. Our time is now and we need the fans to understand the realities of working within a tighter budget whilst sharing our optimism about the development of a younger first team squad that will compete as hard as possible in next year's Championship."

Hoddle to stay

Glenn has repeated several times that he is on a 12 month contract and has no desire to move.  And he also quoted that he  believes belt tightening at Molineux means he will be forced to wheel and deal during the close season Currently lying seventh in the Championship table, the Black Country club's hopes of reaching the play-offs now lie in tatters. And the loss of Premiership parachute payments means Wolves will be worse off in 2006-07. But Hoddle said: "I've not come here and spent lots of money - I think we got £3million from the sale of Henri Camara to Wigan but I've spent lass than that. "I've worked diligently in the transfer market and will continue to do so. "I don't know what money is going to be available until next month's board meeting but I've worked on tight budgets before and I'll do it again."

Hoddle denies Newcastle move

Glenn Hoddle moved quickly to deny rumours, backed by betting odds reducing to 3:1 that he was moving to Newcastle following Graham Souness’ sacking.

Wolves pull plug on reserves

Wolves have scrapped their reserve team, citing changes to the structure of the league and a danger of over-playing youngsters as the reasons, Wanderers' second string finished fourth bottom in last season's Premier Reserve League (north) but only Premiership sides will be allowed to play in that competition during 2006-07. Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We expect that next season more of our young professionals will be either involved in the first-team squad or will be gaining first-team experience out on loan. "Given there's also a 28-game Academy league programme to fulfil, we felt there was a danger of overplaying our youngsters if we also entered a reserve competition. "This approach worked successfully for Derby County last season and other Midland clubs are likely to take this course, in fact Leicester have already said they will not play in a reserve league. "Reserve-team coach Terry Connor will continue to be involved in the coaching of the club's young pros and will take responsibility for arranging friendly games."

Franek has just been voted Polish Player of the Year - WoW says

The award, made to Tomasz Frankowski by his fellow professionals, was presented live on Polish ;television last night. The TV station, Canal Plus, linked up with Molineux to make the presentation to the striker via satellite.  Tomasz won a whopping 40 percent of the vote. In second place was Ebi Smolarek of Borussia Dortmund with 18 percent, third Maciej Zurawski of Celtic with 17 percent, fourth Artur Boruc, also of Celtic, with 16 percent and fifth Liverpool's Jerzy Dudek.
The presentation came after an evening of awards in 13 different categories, with the one going to Tomasz considered most prestigious.
Canal Plus presenter Filip Surma said: "Tomasz was the winner by a big margin. Many people believe he has made the biggest contribution to the national team getting through to the World Cup Finals. Also, his goal scoring record is very good - which is why he is known in Poland as the 'Fox in the Box'.
Tomasz, who posed for pictures with his trophy before training this morning said: "I am very happy to win this award, especially when I look at the names of the other players who were also nominated.
"Last time I won Best Striker so this is a move forward for me. "But this award is for last year and I am a professional and now I am thinking about what I can do in the future.
"I have to show the manager at Wolves I have good form and then I will be able to show the supporters what I can do."

ealier: Wanderers boss Glenn Hoddle has been trying to push through a deal for the 31-year-old since the transfer window opened and have now tied Frankowski to a two-and-a-half year contract. Chief executive Jez Moxey said: "This is a player Glenn has been coveting for a long time. "Despite his age, the manager has assured us - as best he can - that Frankowski is the missing link to help improve the number of goals we score and, in turn, get into the play-offs and hopefully win promotion. "International transfers are, generally speaking, more complicated than domestic ones, but this deal has been particularly tortuous." Frankowski, who scored for his country in their 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat by England at Old Trafford in October, has scored eight goals for second division Elche this season and his sale has prompted the resignation of the Spanish club's president Ramon Sanchez. He could make his debut for Wolves against Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday if he receives international clearance in time

23rd January: Sky Sports News Reports suggest Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on the signature of Polish striker Tomasz Frankowski.

A fee in the region of ?2 million (£1.4 million) has been agreed with Spanish second division side Elche and the move is expected to be rubberstamped shortly.

The transfer will bring to an end manager Glenn Hoddle's long chase for a centre forward, with that search having taken on added urgency after it was revealed last week that Kenny Miller's long-term future lies away from Molineux.

A goalless draw at Millwall on Saturday highlighted Wolves' need for greater firepower if they are to regain promotion to the top flight and the 31-year-old Frankowski would fit the bill having netted seven times for Poland in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

And, despite concerns earlier this month that a deal had stalled with the respective clubs some way apart in their valuation of the player, it is now looking increasingly likely that Hoddle will get his man.

Jeremie Aliadiere

March 24th: Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle has extended Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere's loan from Arsenal. The two clubs have agreed the Frenchman should be allowed to remain at Molineux up to and including Sunday May 21, meaning he would be eligible for the Championship play-off final should Wanderers reach the Millennium Stadium. The 22-year-old initially arrived in the Black Country at the end of January

Long rumoured to be a loan target for Glenn, he has joined Wolves until the end of the season from Arsenal.  WoW said “Wolves have completed a loan move for Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere after the striker cut short his stint at West Ham. Aliadiere failed to make the expected impact at West Ham, starting just one match in the Premiership following his move from Arsenal in the summer. However the 22-year-old, who began the season with a brief spell at Celtic on loan, is rated as a player capable of making an impact in the Championship by Wolves. Chief executive Jez Moxey was pleased by the move, saying: "Aliadiere has not been getting the football he needs at West Ham and we are delighted to be able to offer him an opportunity here at Wolves." Moxey added: "He is a talented young player and it gives manager Glenn Hoddle another option up front as we push for a place in the play-offs." The loan will keep him at Molineux until the end of the season.”

Leon Clarke

March 21st Leon went on loan to Plymouth Argyle on a 24 hour recall after 28 days.  Hopefully he’ll find his goalscoring touch against Preston in his first match to improve our league position (25th March). Here’s how it was announced.

Plymouth have signed striker Leon Clarke on loan until the end of the season from Championship rivals Wolves. Clarke, 21, will team up with his new team-mates on the way up to Preston North End on Saturday and goes straight into the Pilgrims' squad as they bid to end a run of three matches without scoring. Although he is set to stay at Home Park until the end of the season, Clarke's home bow will be delayed as he is not permitted to play against Wolves on April 1, Argyle's next home game.

Leon has been allowed out on loan to QPR til the end of the season (on a 28 day recall) to regain his confidence. He will be with Keith Lowe and also not permitted to play against us on March 4. QPR subsequently cancelled the loan after Ian Holloway was suspended and the acting manager Gary Waddock decided he only wanted to train fully owned players.  QPR are paying their wages until the end of the month.

Keith Lowe

Keith is also on loan to QPR until the end of the season with his spell at Burnley terminated.  WoW said ”QPR have signed versatile young defender Keith Lowe on loan from Wolves until the end of the season. The 20-year-old, who can operate at centre-half or full-back, has come through the academy ranks at Molineux and previously spent time on loan at Burnley. However, the terms of the deal prevent Lowe from playing against Wolves at Loftus Road on March 4.” Keith came back to Moli with Leon - see above

Daniel Jones

Daniel has come through the academy ranks to sign a three and a half year contract, making an incredible comeback from a broken thigh injury 14 months ago. Daniel made his bench debut against league leaders Redaing on 18th March 2006.   WoW story here http://www.wolves.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10307~776339,00.html.

Paul Jones
Goalkeeper Paul Jones has departed Molineux after his Wolves contract was terminated by mutual consent. The 38-year-old Wales international, who was enjoying his second spell at the Black Country club, had fallen out of favour with manager Glenn Hoddle and predecessor Dave Jones. He last featured for Wolves when they were beaten 3-2 by Cardiff at Molineux in September 2004, and has since spent time on loan at Watford and Millwall. Hoddle said: "Paul's been a good servant to Wolves during two spells and we hope he finds another club soon."

On Feb 10th Paul announced that he had a deal with QPR - there’ll be more Wolves there soon than hoops.....and of course two excellent saves cost us the points at Loftus Road.

Queens Park Rangers have signed former Southampton and Wolves goalkeeper Paul Jones until the end of the season. The 38-year-old has been looking for a new club after terminating his contract with Glenn Hoddle's side last month. The veteran custodian had been invited to train with Premiership side West Ham United this week, but the keeper has opted to sign a deal with the Championship club. With Simon Royce injured and Jake Cole currently suspended, QPR caretaker manager Gary Waddock made the move to add goalkeeping cover by securing the services of Jones. "I am really pleased to have signed for QPR," Jones told The Stellar Group's official website. "It has all happened pretty quickly, but once I spoke to the club and heard their thoughts on what they were looking for from me, I had little hesitation in signing until the end of the season. "I am going to train as hard as possible and hopefully force my way into the team. "But I know a lot about Simon Royce and he is a very good goalkeeper, so it should be a very interesting few months and hopefully, there will be a good competition for the goalkeeper's spot.

Lewis Gobern

March 24th Midfielder Lewis Gobern has signed for League Two club Bury on loan until the end of the season. A 24-hour recall option will apply once the loan has passed 28 days.

Kevin O’Connor

Kevin is also out on loan - his first.  The 20year old joins Stockport County with a 24-hour recall option will apply once the loan has passed 28 days.

Kenny Miller
Kenny has signed a pre-agreement to join Celtic at the end of the season here
The Wolves’ Scottish International is free to leave on a Bosman in the summer and it seems increasingly likely that Wolves will cash in during the transfer window with Sheffield Utd and Birmingham apparently offering £1.5m.  Wigan were also interested altough Kenny has always favoured Scotland.  His preference, Rangers, appear to be cooling but there are rumours of Celtic interest.  17th january and Sky report interest from Blackburn Rovers, Fulham and West Ham  Kenny

Maurice Ross
Scottish full-back Maurice Ross, who has been on loan at Molineux from Sheffield Wednesday, has signed a contract which runs until the end of the season after being released by the Owls.  Ross, who only moved to Hillsborough in August, has been on loan at Molineux since October after being frustrated by a lack of first-team action with the Owls. And the former Rangers man has now agreed a deal to stay with Glenn Hoddle's side until the end of the season. Ross said: "When I arrived at Wolves I hadn't played much in the previous six months hence I was only taken on until January but I'm really happy to sign now until the summer, it will give Wolves a chance to take a longer look at me and vice versa. "It will also give me the chance to play my part in trying to help the club achieve its aim of winning promotion."

April updates - Gabor, Vio, Mickey

Gabor Gyepes

Wolves' Gyepes faces lengthy layoff

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle believes defender Gabor Gyepes could be facing up to a year on the sidelines after cruciate knee ligament surgery. The 24-year-old went under the knife in London this week after first sustaining injury during the 3-1 Molineux defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last month. Hoddle said: "Gabor has had his operation, which was a very big operation, and it's going to be anywhere between six and 12 months before he's back. "We wish him well and he's on the road to recovery already."

Meanwhile, Hoddle added that Jackie McNamara, who is on the way back from cruciate surgery, would not be rushed back into action. "Jackie's had a few reserve-team appearances but we're just going to have to wait to get him a little bit sharper," he said.

Vio Ganea
In Saturday’s Express & Star Steve Marshall reported that Vio has blasted Glenn Hoddle in a Romanian interview - full story here http://www.expressandstar.com/articles/sport/wolves/article_89114.php
Vio is quoted as saying "He's the most difficult coach I have worked with in my entire career," said Ganea. "I don't even know if I can name two or three players who are satisfied with Hoddle.
"He runs an extremely stressful and demanding training programme, and whenever we are under pressure he is the only one making it worse by pressurising us even more.
"He has no idea how to win over his players and I just can't forget the fact that the Polish striker Tomasz Frankowski, who is my age, was transferred for £1.4m and has not scored, while I have scored five goals in 12 matches."

Glenn Hoddle retaliated by claiming it was a disciplinary action that caused the outburst. Glenn Hoddle has taken a swipe Vio Ganea after comments attributed to the unsettled striker were reported by a Romanian press agency. Ganea was reported to have described Hoddle as "the most difficult coach I've ever worked with" as well as saying he did not know "even two or three players who are satisfied with Hoddle". But the Wolves boss said: "There's a story behind the story. "Maybe Vio's attitude has changed because I fined him a week's wages for fighting on the training ground and that's unacceptable. "Perhaps he's never had a manager who's done that to him before. He can either take that on the chin or respond how he has done. I'll make my own response when I've read the story and spoken to the player."

Crowd favourite Vio Ganea is also out of contract this season and rumours are that Cardiff are in for him as WOlves look to cash in.   His agent is reported as saying he’ll move within 2 weeks but will stay in England as his family has settled.

Colin Cameron

April 6 Cameron recalled by Wolves

The 33-year-old midfielder joined the Lions last month after being told he would not be offered a new contract at Molineux once his current deal expires at the end of the season. But now Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle has exercised his right to recall the Scot at 24 hours' notice. Hoddle is short of midfield numbers as Darren Anderton, Denes Rosa and Seyi George Olofinjana have all been ruled out of the Sky Blues clash by injury. And although Cameron himself has been receiving treatment for a minor knee injury, he is poised to be pressed into service on Saturday afternoon

Colin departed on loan to Millwall on 3rd March and will debut against Luton.

Colin "Mickey" Cameron may have played his last game for Wolves. The midfielder has joined Millwall on loan until April 1.   Cameron will be eligible to play for the Lions tomorrow at home to Luton and the loan may be extended until the end of the season.  The 33-year-old Scot was told in January that his contract with Wolves will not be renewed when it expires in the summer as the manager has other, younger options in midfield such as Mark Davies and Rohan Ricketts. Several Championship clubs expressed an interest but Cameron - who played for Wolves reserves in the one-all draw with Manchester United last night - has opted for the Den.
Colin for the Wolves in August 2001 in a £1.75 million transfer from Hearts.

This season he has made 25 (eight as a substitute) appearances for Wolves and scored five goals. In total he has made 183 appearances (35 from the bench) and scored 24 goals.  (The younger midfielders between them have scored one goal!)

George’s career at Wolves had been marked by match-winning goals - such as “that one” against Newcastle in Wolves 3-2 win in the FA Cup on 5th January 2003 - and by many long term injuries.  Wolves announced at Glenn Hoddle’s pre-Norwich briefing that George had decided to retire.  London Wolves would like to wish George exvery success in his new ventures WOW said

Putting It All Into Perspective

Glenn Hoddle was joined at Friday's press briefing ahead of the Norwich game, by George Ndah who today announced his retirement from the game.  Below George gives his reasons for retiring along withhis feelings and his thoughts on his days at Wolves and the club's supporters.

He said: "I have been thinking about it (retiring) for quite a while. I got the injury against Sheffield Wednesday and I was on the stretcher thinking 'oh my God - I can't believe this is happening again'.
"I got through that and then when I got back training my knee wasn't feeling that great and it was swollen when I played a couple of reserve games. We came to the decision that I needed a minor operation over the summer in any case. Then, as I trained each day the swelling was just increasing.  I told Baz (physio Barry Holmes) that I needed to see a specialist and so I went to Cardiff to see my good friend John Fairclough who told me that the knee hadn't recovered from the original injury and if I were to continue then in later life I could be crippled.  "When you hear things like that then it all comes into perspective. I love football but it's not worth that.  "I spoke to the gaffer and Jez once I came away from seeing the specialist and told them what had been said. The gaffer told me to go away and think on it for a few days to know that I was sure of my decision, as you're a long time retired.  But after I'd done that I still felt the same and so here I am, having announced the fact that I am retiring.   When you're young, all you want to do is play football but for me now the injuries are hampering that to the point where I'm not enjoying it anymore.   Even when I play a game my recovery is much longer now - it'll take me two or three days to get back to where you need to be, which makes it difficult to train every day.   The gaffer understood my situation and he looked after me - that's why I have played a few games this season.   I have been a pro for 14 years, I have met some fantastic people, I have played at some great stadiums and no one can take that away from me. I am very grateful for what I have achieved and what I have done.  Football moves on, and we have got a very good squad here. We have underachieved this year and the boys will be looking to put that right next season.   I like to think that I have always played to the best of my ability and I think the fans have appreciated that over the years. From my first game against Port Vale to my last one this season, the fans have been fantastic.  That is something I'll never forget and the fans here will always have a special place in my heart, along with the fans at Crystal Palace who have always been good to me.   It was a dream move for me to come from Swindon to come to such a big club like Wolves. My whole family came up and I had a box for them to see me make my debut.  Wolves had been out of the top flight for 19 years and I was a part of the team that got them back up there. I would have liked to have been able to see what I could do in the Premier League but it wasn't to be.
"I have got a few things in the pipeline that I am looking at now that my playing days are over. I don't really want to talk about stuff until it materialises. Football is a small community and I intend to stay in touch with many people both here and at my previous clubs.  The hard thing is going to be not coming in and seeing the boys every day and being part of the banter. I have been involved in that environment since I left school and so it will be difficult getting used to being away from it.  But at least I can now eat what I want, drink what I want and go on holiday when I want!  Football is a massive part of my life, but I have a new life now and I am really looking forward to it."

eg Posted by Mr Wolf:
Thanks for the memories JR....saw you play in some cracking games in my youth (and score some cracking goals) and you were always an absolute gent when it came to autographs !! My question:
"You had a number of great strike partners over the years...but apart from those players that you actually partnered, which other Wolves player from a different era did/do you most admire and why"
And John’s reply

Difficult question, particularly as I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the greats from the fifties. I never saw any of them play, but Billy Wright, Bill Slater, Bert Williams, Peter Broadbent etc. can only be described as gentlemen and fantastic ambassadors for Wolves. From conversations with supporters, they have a high regard for Peter Broadbent as a quality player; from my experience he was equally as impressive as a person.
In more recent times, the contribution of Steve Bull cannot be overstated, particularly as it was such a difficult time for the club.

Clyde back for Wolves

Wolves defender Mark Clyde played his first game for over a year as the reserves went down 3-0 to Nuneaton Borough.

Northern Ireland international Clyde, 23, has not featured for Wolves for over 12 months thanks to hip and ankle injuries but could now go straight into the squad for the game against relegation favourites Crewe on Saturday.

Boss Glenn Hoddle has found himself short of defensive options since Jackie McNamara was ruled out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

HODDLE EYES COLE AND TYSON

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle wants to sign Chelsea striker Carlton Cole on loan - and is also tracking Wycombe hit man Nathan Tyson. Hoddle is seeking to find cover for Carl Cort, Kenny Miller and George Ndah who are all out injured. Vio Ganea and youngster Leon Clarke are the Championship club's only fit strikers. And the Wanderers chief said: "Tyson is one of five or six young players we have been monitoring and still are.”Another was Carlton Cole. We had hoped Chelsea might let him come to us and sharpen up before they lose Didier Drogba in the African Nations Cup," he added on Wolves' website. Cole made seven appearances for Wolves on loan in the 2002/03 season, and has also spent longer spells at Charlton and Aston Villa.

MIMMS PRAISE FOR NEW BOY Paul Harrison

Paul HarrisonWolves goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms has praised new signing Paul Harrison after the former Liverpool man signed a short-term deal at Molineux. The 20-year-old, who was released by the Reds in the summer, has been handed a two-month contract after impressing in a reserve game against Blackburn and will now be looking to be handed a more permanent deal by boss Glenn Hoddle. Mimms told the club's official website: "Paul came in at short notice, played at Blackburn and couldn't be faulted. He's got his chance now to have a couple of months with us and try and impress the manager." Meanwhile, scans have revealed that Michael Oakes has suffered severe bruising to his ankle after the alleged stamping incident at Watford last weekend.

JOLEON LESCOTT LINKED WITH EVERTON

(3May05)Rumours abound of a £4m bid for Joleon by Everton.  Portsmouth are also said to be interested

http://football.guardian.co.uk

Everton look set to win the race to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Joleon Lescott, heading off late interest from Portsmouth. David Moyes is keen to add a central defender to his ranks and it is understood that talks have begun between Everton and Wolves with a view to a contract offer. Wolves are likely to want in the region of £4m for Lescott but Everton's valuation is believed to be nearer £3m, with any disagreement over the fee offering Portsmouth a chance to gazump their Premiership rivals.
Lescott is one of the most highly rated players in the Championship and has also attracted the attention of Aston Villa this season. He has two years remaining on his contract at Molineux, which was renegotiated last year, although Wolves are resigned to cashing in on their most saleable asset amid financial restructuring brought on by their failure to win promotion to the Premiership and the ending of parachute payments.
Lescott has never played in the top division, having missed the 2003-04 season with a knee injury, and that lack of experience at the highest level will curtail Wolves's asking price. Having played regularly in the last two seasons there is no reason to suggest he has not made a full recovery from his injury, but Everton, notorious for their rigorous medical checks, will not take any chances.
Moyes is expected to have some £10m at his disposal this summer and a proportion of that transfer kitty has been set aside to sign a central defender with Lescott regarded as the solution to what has been a long-standing problem. Last year Per Kroldrup joined from Udinese but the Dane struggled to make an impact and switched to Fiorentina in January after one Premiership appearance.
Moyes filled that void by re-signing Alan Stubbs from Sunderland but the 34-year-old defender is out of contract in the summer. David Weir, who will be 36 next week, also has no long-term future at Goodison Park, and Joseph Yobo, the mainstay of Everton's defence this season, continues to be linked with a summer move to Arsenal, paving the way for Lescott's likely arrival.
Should Lescott leave Molineux he might be replaced by Luke Chambers of Northampton Town. Hoddle is among a number of managers to have checked on the 20-year-old's progress and saw him play on Saturday along with Hull City's Peter Taylor.

JOLEON SIGNS NEW CONTRACT 19th October 2005

Joleon Lescott has signed a new two and a half year deal at Wolves.   The 23-year-old centre half, who had 18 months left on his old contract, will appear at a press conference later today.
Chief executive Jez Moxey says: "This is great news for the club. Joleon is one of our best players and we are delighted to have signed him up for another three and a half years. "Jo has been with the club since he was a schoolboy and I know how much he longs to play in the Premier League with Wolves. We are delighted he has committed his future to us and we hope we can help him fulfil his ambition of getting into the top flight by winning promotion."

Later in the day he spoke to the press  saying “We Have The Same Ambition “

Jo Lescott has thanked Wolves for his new two and a half year deal and said the club has got a squad that can win promotion to the Premiership this season.
The 23-year-old defender signed a new contract today up until the summer of 2008. He had 18 months left on his old deal.
"I'm grateful to the club for recognising my achievements and rewarding me with this new contract," he said.
"I've always had a good relationship with the club and the fans and I really want to stay here and play in the Premiership for Wolves.
"It was a terrible time for me when the club got promoted and I missed the whole season through injury. I tried to tell myself that as I'd never played in the Premier League I didn't really know what I was missing - but it was hard.
"I was lucky that during that time I had a little boy and that brightened my spirits."
Negotiations between club and player have gone on for some weeks and Jo admits that several factors influenced his decision to sign. He adds: "I needed to be sure that the club has the same ambitions as my own and they have convinced me that they have. Obviously the manager Glenn Hoddle has been a major factor as have the senior players at the club. But I also talked a lot to my mum and dad.
"As I'm one of the longest serving players, I also want to be part of the new training ground that's about to come on line.
"As soon as I understood the club has the same ambitions as my own I was ready to sign.
"It was very flattering to see my name linked to some big clubs but it was just speculation. I want to play top flight football with Wolves.
"I think we have got a great squad of players here and we can win promotion this season.
"I can understand that the fans might be getting a bit frustrated because they can see the quality we've got but we are not scoring as many as we should. But we have got to keep working hard and playing the way the gaffer wants us to."
Manager Glenn Hoddle hailed the signing as great news for Wolves fans. He added: "Jo has always wanted to stay here but his agent needed to negotiate the right deal for him. We bridged the gap and now we've got a positive outcome for the club.
"He's a good player and if he keeps learning then he can become a great one."

Joleon Player of the Month

Wolves report that Joleon has deservedly been voted August Powerade Player of the Month in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Joleon won the award for his contribution to helping Wolves keep three clean sheets in August and his last minute equaliser against Cardiff City.
Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, said: "Joleon has been a colossus for Wolves so far this season with a string of outstanding performances. He basically ticks all the boxes for the complete centre-half - quick, good in the air and an excellent passer of the ball. He is certain to play a big part in Wolves' attempts to gain promotion this season."

The Powerade Awards panel, chaired by Sky Sports pundit and Coca-Cola Ambassador Chris Kamara, made the decision. The panel also includes Jack Taylor from The Football League, who refereed the 1974 World Cup final, Paul Hetherington, chairman of the Football Writers Association and Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters Federation.

Meanwhile eatsleepsport reports that “the 23-year-old has been linked with most of the top Premiership clubs and has started the season in a rich vein of form wining the Championship's player of the month award for August.

It is a big turn-around for the defender who missed Wolves' entire Premiership season with a succession of injury problems two years ago but has fought his way back to become one of the hottest properties in the game.

Spurs have not got a pressing need for a centre half but Jol is in the process of building a young side with an English base running through it at White Hart Lane and Lescott certainly fits the bill.”

MOXEY ON GLENN HODDLE’S FIRST 12 Months and 50 Matches

 Moxey on Hoddle's first anniversary after a record of P50 W 17 D25 L8
Moxey in WoW TV interview says he's delighted with progress of last 12 months.  He's a good experienced English Manager.  The team spirit is very high.  Training methods good.
Works the team very hard;  uses technology to prepare for matches.  And he's raised the professionalism.   Given a choice English quality manager v foreign manager - we would choose English - applies to players too.

Style is pleasing on the eye and attractive.   Only lost 8 but 25 draws out of  50 matches is where the frustration exists and we need to win more matches.  Hoddle is the right guy.

"Why aren't we winning?"
Squad has 5 first team strikers - Kenny Miller & Carl Cort dogged with injury George hasn't played for 2 years and just coming back.  Policydeveolping young talent of bringing youth on but Leon hasn't made the  positive impact we hoped.  Vio coming bacl from a very serious injusry.  All of front line affected in some way.   Glenn is aware of this for the transfer window.  Glenn is honing his list and we will try and make one or two moves.  Budget was set at the beginning - Glenn agreed it.  Spent some on bringing the loan players in.  Looking to improve with one or two good players, but we need to get our strikers back.  It's still a tall order to get into a top two
Minimum requirement remains to get in to the top six.
"So, he's the man for the job?"
Very pleased with him and he's the right guy to lead us forward
Look forward to many more years with him being at Molineux

MORE TO COME FROM VIO

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle believes there is more to come from striker Vio Ganea.
The 32-year-old Romanian missed the whole of last season after sustaining cruciate knee ligament damage but has now netted three goals in seven outings this term.
Hoddle told the clubs official website “Vio is a real box man he knows how to work the 18 yard box and he is getting his sharpness back.  However, he needs to make himself available for more chances. But of the six or seven he's had in games he's played this season, he's scored three."

KING KENNY

Kenny signs pre-agreement with Celtic

Wolves striker Keny Miller will move to SPL table-toppers Celtic in the summer after signing a pre-contract agreement at Parkhead. Click here to hear Kenny’s most famous Wolves goal and the final whistle reaction on the Wolf. The Scotland striker has agreed to join the Bhoys on a three-year contract, with Celtic having the option of a further year. The news is a blow to the Black Country club especially after chief executive Jez Moxey had denied that the 26-year-old was poised for a switch north of the border. Miller told Celtic's website: "It is a tremendous honour to have signed for a club of Celtic's stature. I was fortunate enough to have a number of options, but when Celtic made their interest known, this was where I wanted to play. "Having spoken to Gordon Strachan and the club I am delighted to have committed my future to Celtic.

"I am looking forward immensely to joining my new team-mates in the summer and hope to be able to play my part in bringing further success to Celtic. "Clearly, my focus for the rest of this season is Wolves and I will be doing all I can to assist the club in its efforts to secure promotion from the Championship." Strachan said: "Kenny is a quality player and I am delighted to have secured his signing for next season. He is still a young player with his best years ahead of him and I am sure he will be a great addition to our squad from next season onwards. We are pleased Kenny has chosen Celtic as the club where he wishes to continue his career." Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell added: "There were a number of other clubs trying to sign Kenny so we are delighted to have won the race and signed Kenny on a long-term contract. "The Celtic board is pleased to be able to support Gordon in his plans for the future, something we will continue to do." A proposed move to Sheffield United had earlier fallen through after Miller received interest from Celtic, who will offer Champions League football next season
.

More reaction from Glenn

Glenn Hoddle believes Kenny Miller's mind will be more focussed on his job now that his future has been decided.
The striker has signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic which brings to an end the speculation as to where he will be playing once his deal at Wolves expires in June.
"Kenny has done nothing wrong," says the Molineux boss.
"I think his mind will be more settled now and as long as he's giving 100 per cent and scoring goals then I'll be happy.
"I know he is professional enough not to let this affect him.
"Over recent years there's always been something in the back ground for Kenny. Before I arrived there were questions over whether he would stay or not.
"We offered him a hell of a contract so if he was a money-orientated person he would have signed.
"The worst possible scenario for us would have been Celtic wanting to take him in the window and offering us £300, 000. That would have been no good for me to go out and get a replacement so I might have said no but he would have wanted to have gone. That would have been a recipe for disaster.
"It's better for everyone that things are out in the open and after today we draw a line under it and get Kenny's mind focussed on Wolves.
"He will want to do well for the club, for Scotland and so the people at Glasgow will see what they are getting.
"It will be great if he can help us win promotion and at the end of the season we can say goodbye and wish him well."
The player himself admitted that family considerations had played a major part in his decision to move north of the boarder.
He says: "My family have been one of the issues why I have wanted to move. They are very important to me. But I'm joining Celtic in the summer and for now I'm concentrating on Wolves.
"I've always tried not to let things affect my performance. I've played 150 games for Wolves and always given my all. I was here when we got relegated and I want to play a part in putting that right.
"I'm enjoying my football at Wolves. We should have more points on the board but hopefully we can put that right in the second part of the season."

OLD Kenny articles: HODDLE LOOKING FOR DEAL BUT KENNY REFUSES

DECEMBER 13th - unlucky for some as WoW reports that Kenny has turned down what Glenn describes as a fabulous offer.leaving hin free to negotiate a pre-cpntract in January and leave anyway on a Bosman in the summer.  Rumours are that Rangers may still be interested

November 20th: Boss Glenn Hoddle remains hopeful Kenny Miller will agree a new contract with Wolves - as he confirmed he's still tracking Milton Keynes hitman Izale McLeod. Speculation continues to rage about Miller's future, with Scottish giants Celtic, Rangers and Hearts all linked with the 25-year-old whose Molineux contract expires at the end of the season. Miller would be free to walk away from Wolves for nothing in the summer and could even agree a move outside of England from January 1. But Hoddle has made keeping the Edinburgh-born front man at Wolves his number one priority, although he admitted talks have been shelved until the striker overcomes his current hamstring injury. "We've not had a phone call from any club about Kenny Miller," said Hoddle. "But we have been speaking to him about a new contract and that has been going on for weeks. "He wants to get his hamstring right first and then we will take it from there. "But we want him to sign and to keep him but whether that happens remains to be seen. "If he did have to go whilst the transfer window was open then at least we could replace him, but our number one target is for Kenny to stay with us." In the meantime Hoddle is continuing to track a number of up and coming lower division strikers with a view to potentially bringing them to Molineux. The Wolves boss has admitted defeat in his pursuit of Nathan Tyson who has left Wycombe to join Nottingham Forest on loan until January when his move will become permanent. But Hoddle remains on the trail of McLeod, who has seven goals to his name with the National Hockey Stadium club this season, and watched the former Derby man in Tuesday night's FA Cup replay with Lincoln.

 KING KENNY

October 4th - Wolves will have "first option" on re-signing striker Kenny Miller, according to the player's agent David Baldwin. The Scotland international admitted he would be willing to talk to clubs such as Hearts and Rangers in January if either showed a serious interest in him. Miller has scored seven times in as many games for club and country. But his representative has assured the Molineux club they will be first to have a say on the future of the 25-year-old. Baldwin told the Scottish Mirror: "Kenny has been on fire and, for him to do what he has done in internationals, puts him in the headlights of decent-sized teams. "Kenny is enjoying himself again with Wolves and, particularly, playing under Glenn Hoddle. "Wolves are always going to have the first option to re-sign him."

The Wolves site immediately responded with “we want to keep him”.... with CEO Jez Moxey commenting Kenny has played very well for Wolves both under Glenn Hoddle, and previously under Dave Jones.  "We have been impressed with the way he has conducted himself throughout the whole affair. He has kept his head down and remained focused on his job and his form this season has impressed the manager, his team mates, the board and the supporters too. You only need to hear the fans since 'there's only one Kenny Miller' to know that!
"From the club's perspective, I cannot see a situation where a decision is made to sell Kenny in the January transfer window - we want him to help us gain promotion this season and he won't be able to do that playing for someone else.

This followed speculation that Kenny was lining up a move to Rangers or Hearts following articles in Scottish newspapers.  here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/4302094.stm"

Sep 10: Kenny Miller is out of contract at the end of the season and has been on the transfer list at his own request for the past 12 months. Sunderland failed with two bids for the striker during the summer as Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle is keen to build his team around Miller. The 25-year-old, who was Scotland's hero during the past week of World Cup qualifiers, has yet to give an indication as to his future plans. But Hoddle has moved to resolve the situation by opening dialogue with the former Rangers forward's representatives. Hoddle is not expecting a swift resolution to the negotiations but is hopeful they will conclude with Miller signing a new contract with the Championship club. "We're looking to keep him here," Hoddle told the club's official website. "Discussing the future's something that's been on our agenda for a while. "It's going to take a bit more time but we are talking to his people. "I certainly have plenty of belief in him and he's got belief in himself as well."

Rumours abound that West Ham are after him for the January window.  (see also Black Cats here) and, after his outstanding performances for Scotland (See report here) , the Scottish Evening Times reported:

Hitzfeld: Big guns will want Miller (from Evening Times 8 Sep 2005) [url]http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/hi/sport/6020872.html

KENNY MILLER is likely to find himself at the centre of a transfer battle after emerging as a new Scotland hero this week.
Rangers have already been linked with the Wolves striker, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old moved to England after failing to cut it at Ibrox, but Alex McLeish is said to be interested if Miller decides to leave the Coca-Cola Championship side on a summer Bosman.  However, if Miller continues to bang in the goals, he will not be short of offers - and from clubs across the continent.
German legend Ottmar Hitzfeld told TV viewers in his homeland that Bundesliga clubs should be chasing Miller. He said: "He was amazing (against Italy and Norway). This makes him a likely target for Europe's big clubs."
Miller's displays have not gone unnoticed by a string of Premiership sides. And already Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has warned clubs sniffing around the player that his club will do everything within their power to keep the player at Molineux. He said: "We are sending out a clear signal that we want to keep Kenny for the long term.  "Right now it seems our decision not to sell him was a very astute one. He has shown his quality in his performances for us and his goals for Scotland in the last few games.
"Obviously because of that he is going to attract a lot of attention and speculation over his future.
"We can't stop that from happening. But we've had no contact with Rangers and wouldn't welcome it - we're not in the business of losing our best players."
Manager Glenn Hoddle added: "We're looking to keep Kenny here and talks are ongoing over a new contract.
"I don't want him to go and it's going to take a lot of talking. He is not unhappy here and his transfer request was not a footballing issue, but a personal issue. "It is not a realistic transfer request anyway because it was made well before I came here. As far as I'm concerned, he's off the list."
Walter Smith probably won't care where Miller is playing - just as long as he continues to put the ball in the back of the net for Scotland
.

TOM HUDDLESTONE

Feb 2006 - Tom returned to Spurs and made an impressive debut.

January 2006 - It now looks as though Tom will indeed return to Spurs after the Millwall match following Spurs’ sales during the transfer window.  Tom made a big impact in the first three games, and continued to look strong but with decreasing influence in later games.  His last game at Molineux was the 2-1 win against Luton.  He was not permitted to play in the FA Cup but Spurs may relent since Leicester knocked them out.

24 Dec 2005 HUDDLESTONE COULD STAY

Spurs defender Tom Huddlestone could stay at Wolves for the rest of the season if Glenn Hoddle gets his wish and Martin Jol gets his man. Hoddle is planning talks over the possibility of extending Huddlestone's loan deal at Molineux, and he will be hoping to capitalise on the strength in numbers in Tottenham's current first-team squad. Tottenham face Birmingham on Boxing Day at White Hart Lane hoping to cement their place in the top four of the Barclays Premiership. Their successful central defensive partnership of England's Ledley King and Michael Dawson will again be on duty against Steve Bruce's struggling side. The form of King and Dawson has forced Huddlestone and other highly-rated young defenders to seek first-team experience away from the club, with boss Jol set on his preferred pairing. Huddlestone, signed from Derby, has been hugely impressive since he arrived at Wolves on loan. And although the Londoners told Wolves it was unlikely an extension would be granted, the expected arrival of Dutch international centre-back Ron Vlaar from AZ Alkmaar next month could work in Hoddle's favour. "Spurs made it clear when we first asked for an extension that they wanted Tom to go back, but we will be conversing with them in the next week or so to see if it's the same," said Hoddle. "I don't know at this stage whether there's a chance of keeping him until the end of the season, but it's something we'll have to talk about."

Glenn’s desire to keep Tom was fulfilled, when it was confirmed after the 3-0 win at Derby, which included George Ndah’s first goal for two and a half years and Tom’s first ever senior goal that the loan was to be extended to January.  Tom said “I'm very happy at this moment, after getting a good win and scoring my first goal. I am enjoying my time here at Wolves and I will continue to give 100 per cent for as long as I am here.”  He will return to Spurs in January in case he is to play in the FA Cup.

After two excellent away and aa man of the match performance against Norwich, Gleen wants to keep Tom for longer.  Here is the newsflash.

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle wants to extend the loan of Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone after the 18-year-old impressed in his first three appearances. Huddlestone joined Wanderers on an initial one-month deal but Hoddle is keen to keep him on board beyond the end of November. He said: "Tom Huddlestone was outstanding and the midfield three came out on top against Norwich.”Tom's passing catches the eye. He's a good prospect who's going to get better and better. "Tom's performance was special and it would be helpful if we could extend his stay."

HUDDLESTONE IN FOR ONE MONTH LOAN FROM SPURS 25/10/05

At last Glenn’s links with Spurs appear to have paid off. In the wake of injuries and suspensions an already insufficient squad was enhanced by the signing on one month’s loan of former Derby favourite Tom Huddlestone.   The WoW story is here http://www.wolves.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10307~731855,00.html

MARK LITTLE WINS U18 Cap

mark comes on at Wycombe Mark LittleMark won his call up to the under- 18 England team for the 1-0 defeat by Turkey on Tuesday 15th November.  He has impressed us by his performances for the U17s in the Youth Cup and in the reserves, with many calls for his call up to the full Wolves squad, especially when we’ve had problems at right back.  Here are Mark’s comments on Wolves World
England's under 18 international against Turkey on Tuesday evening proved to be something of an unforgettable experience for Mark Little despite the 1-0 defeat that his side suffered.
The Worcester-born product of the Molineux Academy was making his debut for his country after impressing at both reserve and youth levels for his club over the past year.
He said: "It was pretty strange because everywhere we went after we had arrived in Istanbul, we were accompanied by armed guards."It was a good job really because there was a lot of aggression aimed at us. When we travelled by coach, children were throwing stones and eggs at us! "There was quite a big crowd at the game itself and they were quite hostile, but again it was mainly youngsters.
"We conceded a goal early on and although I felt we were the better team and enjoyed the majority of the play, we didn't take our chances and ended up losing."It was my first cap and afterwards Brian Eastick, our manager, told me that he was pleased with what I'd done.
"It was all a real thrill for me - I'd had a smile on my face since I got my call up a couple of weeks ago and although we lost I really enjoyed the experience."Most of the team was made up of players from Premier League clubs but no one thought they were better than anyone else - they are a great bunch and we all got on well together."

HODDLE KEEPS TABS ON ROSA

Hungarian Demes Rosa signed a six month contract with an option to extend for a further two years.  He is on loan, as was gabor Gyepes, from Ferencvaros.

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle will continue to keep tabs on Hungarian trialist Denes Rosa after being impressed with what he's seen in training. Midfielder Rosa spent several days at Molineux this week after being invited over for training by the Wolves boss. Hoddle had watched videos of the 28-year-old Ferencvaros star in action and asked defender Gabor Gyepes for his thoughts on his former club and current international team mate. Wolves will now watch Rosa in action for his club against Sopron over the weekend before weighing up a potential swoop during the January transfer window. "Denes has gone back, but we will have him watched again at the weekend when Ferencvaros have got their last game before their league shuts down for the winter," said Hoddle. "He is one of a number of options that we are looking at. We will have him watched before the Hungarian international players from their home league go to America for an international." If Wolves opt to pursue their interest in the nine-times capped midfielder they could land him for a cut-price fee because his contract with Ferencvaros is due to expire in the summer. And, with Hungary now a fully fledged member of European Union, there would be no red tape standing in the way of the transfer as Rosa would not require a work permit. Rosa has already seen a potential move to the Championship with Wolves' FA Cup opponents Plymouth collapse following a trial at Home Park. But he is understood to be keen to try his luck in England and would relish the chance to link up with Gyepes at Molineux. The pair are close friends because of their connections with club and country, with Gyepes providing a roof over Rosa's head in Wolverhampton during his brief stay. Hoddle has already made it clear he is keen to keep hold of Gyepes, who he classes as ‘quite a find' having seen him adapt well to the English game during his six-month loan stay from Ferencvaros.

IZZY FOR FULHAM? - FAILED STRIKER BID - IZALE McLEOD

Fulham boss Chris Coleman reportedly hopes to beat off competition from Birmingham, Everton and Wolves to land MK Dons star Izale McLeod. The 21-year-old has banged in 28 goals for the Dons since his move from Derby last year and has been interesting a number of clubs. Wolves have already seen a £1.3m offer rejected but a bid of around £1.5m from the Cottagers is likely to spark a transfer scramble and tempt Dons owner Pete Winkelman to part with the striker.

Wolves have had two bids for an unnamed lower division striker rejected with manager Glenn Hoddle telling chief executive Jez Moxey not to raise his offer. The Molineux supremo hit out at the fee being asked for the player, believed to MK Dons front man Izale McLeod, and told the club's official website: "We will keep talking to the club but Glenn feels we have reached the level we should be paying for this player. "The problem with English clubs is that they want too much money for players. We are all guilty of this but it starts with the top clubs in the Premiership and filters down. It makes it hard to get value for money." "The manager tells me that we've bid enough and whilst I'm prepared to negotiate around the edges, I feel we have already made a generous offer. I hope, however, the club in question will keep talking to us." A spokesperson for MK Dons said: "Glenn Hoddle has been down here on a couple of occasions to scout Izale McLeod before he got injured back in August but he is very much our player."

CARLISLE DENY WOLVES LINK

Carlisle boss Paul Simpson insists the club have had no contact with Wolves over a move for star striker Karl Hawley. Reports have suggested Wanderers boss Glenn Hoddle is keeping close tabs on the 15-goal hitman but Simpson insists he has not heard anything from Wolves, or any other club interested in securing the 24-year-old's services. "I've had no contact from any club about Karl Hawley," said Simpson. "I'm not really worried about it. The form that he's been in there's bound to be interest."

JOL NO TO RASIAK

Martin Jol has issued a hands-off warning to any potential suitors of Grzegorz Rasiak and confirmed the striker will replace Mido in January. Rasiak will come in for Mido when the Egypt ace jets off to play for his country in the African Nations Cup next month. The striker, signed for £1m from Derby County on the final day of last summer's transfer window, has yet to make a real impact at White Hart Lane and has been linked with loan moves to his former club and Wolves - now managed by ex-Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle. But the current Spurs coach insists the player is going nowhere. "He is not for sale," said Jol. "I think he is doing great. He is terrific again in training and he is one of the best players with his head in the Premiership. "It is still six weeks before Mido goes to the African Nations Cup and he is playing at the moment because he is doing well. Rasiak knows he is his understudy so if Mido is not there, he will play or I will play with Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe, although that is not an ideal situation. "I prefer somebody who is a target man and a player who can play off him. I need somebody who can hold up the ball."

DARREN “SICKNOTE” ANDERTON SIGNS

Wolves have captured former England midfielder Darren Anderton on a free transfer from Birmingham. The 33-year-old has agreed a one-year contract at Molineux, just months after signing a similar deal with Blues. Anderton began his career with Portsmouth before spending 12 seasons at Tottenham. Despite being plagued by injuries throughout his career, he was given a chance at Birmingham by Steve Bruce and did sufficient to earn himself a second year at St Andrews. But whereas his chances were likely to be limited this season with Birmingham, at Wolves - managed by his former England boss Glenn Hoddle - Anderton is expected to take on a more significant role. Glenn Hoddle has cited new signing Darren Anderton's versatility as the main reason behind his move for the former Birmingham midfielder. The 33-year-old Anderton has joined Wolves from the Premiership Blues on a free transfer with the Molineux club taking over the remainder of his St Andrew's contract which is due to expire at the end of the current season. Hoddle said: "Darren can play in several positions. "For instance we can get him close in on the opposition goal or also play him in a deeper role in front of the back four from where he can spray the ball around. "Also, Darren can play out on the wing. "I'm not saying I think that's his best position but in the final 15 minutes of a game when you're looking for someone to be putting in a quality cross then there's no-one better than Darren Anderton."
Ed Note: this was exactly where he played for 94 minutes against Chester City in the Carling Cup, put in a man-of-the-match performance and scored his first goal for Wolves.  Darren has been given squad number 14 (as above)

Stockport County have landed Wolves' teenage goalkeeper Carl Ikeme

Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle circulated Ikeme's name to clubs on Tuesday in the hope of shipping him out before the transfer deadline. Ikeme made his debut for the Molineux club last week in the Carling Cup victory over Chester City. But with competition for places fierce in the Black Country, Hoddle is keen for Ikeme to build up his experience elsewhere. The 19-year-old has now joined League Two side Stockport on loan until the middle of January. Hatters manager Chris Turner moved for Ikeme after missing out on Hull City's Matt Duke and the Edgeley Park side have been chasing a new keeper after selling Neil Cutler to Rotherham United.  Stockport were, of course , at one time managed by Dave Jones.

JONES WANTS OUT

On-loan Wolves goalkeeper Paul Jones has opened the door on a permanent move to Millwall in the New Year. The 38-year-old returns to his parent club after the Lions' home clash with Norwich on 22 November - but he is keen to leave Molineux. And Jones did not rule out returning to Millwall when the transfer window re-opens in January. "In January I will be looking to get away, because I know I'm unlikely to get a game with Wolves," Jones told the South London Press. "Whether I will come back to Millwall or somewhere else in January is something we will just have to see. "(Millwall boss) Colin Lee has told me he would like to have me back. I certainly think I have 18 months left, playing-wise.

earlier.....Millwall have averted their goalkeeping crisis by signing Paul Jones on a month's loan from Wolves. Lions boss Colin Lee snapped up the 38-year-old Wales international after Andy Marshall's sending-off at the weekend left him without a senior goalkeeper. Jones should make his Championship debut for the Lions against Ipswich on Saturday - but will not be allowed to play against Wolves at Molineux on 13 September.

The First Lady of Cricket is  WOLVES new LIFE VICE PRESIDENT              Rachel Heyhoe-Flint M.B.E. honoured

Rachel, a long time dedicated Wolves supporter and Director from 1990 to January 2004 until Jez Moxey “cleared the board for investors to join” was honoured by London Wolves members Chairman Rick Hayward and Club President Jack Hayward for her service to Wolves by appointing her a Club Life Vice President in succession to the legendary Jack Harris.
She said  "I am really thrilled and want to thank Rick very much. I am particularly honoured to be following in the footsteps of the late dear departed Jack Harris.
"I will always be here to help the club and the wider community where I can."

Rachel is a bundle of action -recently WWLSC saw her in action before the Ipswich win when she helped Phil Bant (Superman - see here) with his sponsorship and pitch appearances and enabled the presentation by Bully.

Rachel was the England cricket captain from 1966 to 1977.  More details of her career follow.

In 2004 she again broke through the bastions of male dominance at the MCC when she was the first female elected to the committee.

RACHEL Heyhoe Flint struck another blow for cricket equality today (12th March 2004) when she became the first woman in the 217-year history of the Marylebone Cricket Club to be elected to its general committee.

The former England women's captain was one of the leading campaigners in the battle to get MCC, the owners of London's Lord's Cricket Ground, to accept female members, a cause that was finally won in a 1998 ballot.

Heyhoe Flint, one of the first 10 women members to join the club – for which there is an average waiting list time of 20 years – in 1999, came second in the poll for the four vacant committee spots with a total of 3,444 votes.

Already on the club's marketing committee, Heyhoe Flint, 64, said today: "I am absolutely delighted to have been elected to the MCC committee. It is a tremendous honour, and I am indebted to everyone who voted for me."

She added: "It's a particular pleasure to know that I'll be joining the committee at one of the most exciting times in the long and distinguished history of the club.

Rachel has a string of “firsts” - here are some more  - she was Captain of the FIRST England women's team to play at Lord's Cricket Ground, FIRST woman to make a record 51 appearances for her country in the English women's cricket team and in 1990 she was the FIRST woman to apply to join the MCC. She was also the FIRST woman to get an MBE for services to cricket and the FIRST woman television sports reporter in the UK Between 1960 and 1977 and from 1979 she was a member of the English Women's Cricket Team and was also its Captain for eleven years. Under her captaincy England won the FIRST Women's World Cup in 1972. In 1999 became one of the FIRST 10 female honorary life members in the long history of the Marylebone Cricket Club

POLISH STAR BEING WATCHED

Nov 28th:  news from Michal Sznerch: “Gajtkowski is going to join Korona KIelce on 1 January 2006”

Nov: Wolves are reportedly watching Polish striker Krzysztof Gajtkowski as boss Glenn Hoddle is keen to bolster his attacking options in the New Year transfer window. They have watched him on several occasions this season but could face a fight for him as Scottish side Hearts and three Polish clubs are chasing the 25-year-old.

Gajtkowski's agent Przemyslaw Erdman admitted that the player would be interested in a move to England. "Nothing has been decided yet - negotiations are continuing with all the clubs," said Erdman. "And we must consider the clubs from abroad - the one that takes Krzysztof's eye the most is the one from the English club. "He would be interested in a move to either British club." Lech Poznan official Michal Lipczynski confirmed both Wolves and Hearts were keeping tabs on Gajtkowski."In Gajtkowski's case we've got five clubs interested, with Wolves being one of them as well as Hearts," said Lipczynski.

JODY SIGNS EXTENDED CONTRACT

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle has completed the extension of Jody’s contract to June 2008 with an option to extend by a further year.  His contract was due to expire this season, although there was a one year extension option.   Glenn and Jody both expressed their delight.  Jody’s participation this season has been hampered by a calf strain.

POSTMA SIGNS

January 2006 - Stefan, after  arelly impressive run in the team - has signed til the endo for the season
Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle has completed the loan signing of Aston Villa goalkeeper Stefan Postma. The 29-year-old Dutchman had spent this week training with the Molineux club and also featured in the 2-1 reserve-team defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday evening. The loan will run until 21 January and Postma has been cleared to play in the Carling Cup, and was on the bench for the 5:1 defeat of Chester City.

Maurice Ross in on loan until Jan 25th

ex Rangers Maurice Ross, now at Sheffield Wednesday, has been training with the Wolves (20/10/05).  It is said we are looking at him s a loan to cover Jackie McNamara’s absence.   Maurice Ross joined Rangers as a trainee and made his debut in the 7-1 victory over his hometown club Dundee in February 2000.   Ross was a star in the Youth teams and captained the Under-21s to win the Championship during the 2000/01 campaign.  He really established himself in the Rangers first team during the 2002/03 season and has featured regularly in Alex McLeish's plans since then.
Scotland manager Berti Vogts took a chance on the right-sided midfielder and handed him an international call-up when he'd only made a few appearances for the Gers. Ross made his debut for Scotland against the Korean Republic in May 2002 and went on to feature prominently in the team as they tried and failed to secure a place in Euro 2004.  He signed a four-year contract with Gers in September 2003.  His 2004/05 season continued the steady ascent of previous ones. He played 19 matches and even scored once, in Rangers' 5-1 League Cup victory against Motherwell

HODDLE STILL KEEN ON IDIAKEZ PLUS 2 MORE

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle is still hoping to sign midfielder Inigo Idiakez from Championship rivals Derby.  The former England boss has so far added Rohan Ricketts and Jackie McNamara to his squad during the close season but confirmed he has made a third bid for the 31-year-old Spaniard. Chief executive Jez Moxey and Hoddle appeared at a joint press conference to confirm Wanderers are still chasing the Rams star and are also attempting to sign two unnamed players from Premiership clubs. "The other two are with Premiership clubs and we have bid seven-figure sums," Moxey told the club's official website. "One club has told us that they may well want to do business with us but they want to bring in two players themselves before they will let the player we want go.
"We are finding this everywhere we go. Clubs are reluctant to lose players until they have others in." Hoddle added: "I'm pleased with what we have. What I'm looking for is strength in depth because it's going to be a long, hard season. What I'm after is the icing on the cake."

Meanwhile Derby manager Phil Brown has blasted Wolves after the Molineux club went public on their efforts to sign midfielder Inigo Idiakez. Brown accused the Rams' Championship rivals of unsettling the playmaker but then re-iterated his determination to keep the 31-year-old on board. Three unsuccessful attempts by Wolves for Idiakez prompted talks between the player and Brown before the Spaniard finally pledged his loyalty to the Rams. Brown said: "I'm disappointed Wolves have gone public on this and if it was done in an attempt to upset the player, then they've succeeded. It is up to Wolves how they conduct their business but I don't intend to conduct mine in that manner."

CAMARA SAGA OVER AT LAST

6th August - Sky Sports TV said that Camara is undergoing a medical today, prior to signing on Monday for £3m.

Wolves confirmed that they have accepted an undisclosed offer (later said to be £3.3m for wantaway Henri Camara from newly promoted Wigan.  With three successive relegations for HC, that should make Wigan clear favourites for the drop. Aug 2 - there appeat to be issues with his personal terms and the deal was called off.  However, the Wigan site carries this story

......Despite Jewell's comments, Camara's agent Willie McKay says the move is still on - although he has other options even if he does not move to Wigan.
"We are not far away in terms of what we want and I am waiting for Wigan to come back to me," said McKay.
"If they play Henri down the middle for one season they will stay up. He is ready to score 20 goals next season.
"But he will be going somewhere, don't you worry about that.
"I am speaking to six other interested clubs and they all fancy him."

Earlier, Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric wants to bring Wolves striker Henri Camara to Fratton Park. The Senegal international has settled his differences with the Molineux club but still wants to move back to the top-flight. Camara can leave if another club meets Wolves' valuation and Pompey would be an attractive option. Mandaric admits Camara's pace would make him a perfect partner for Lomana LuaLua.  "To have pace up front is very important," said Mandaric. "And both Lomana and Henri have plenty of it."  More on the Rat here

HUNGARIAN DEFENDER GETS TRIAL

After a half season trial Gabor Gyepes really impressed at Molineux and is set to become Joleon’s permanent partner in defence.

July 27 Scott Cooper reports for WOLVESFC.CO.UK that Hungarian trialist Gabor Gyepes is set to sign a half-season loan deal with Wolves in the near future.   Gabor was to go on and feature in several of the pre-season friendlies before being given a six month contract with an option to buy from Ferencvaros.

It is believed that the Hungarian international is on his way to England today for talks and to sign the deal which also includes a clause to buy the player out of his existing contract which runs until June 2006.

The Hungarian newspaper 100% Fradi today reports that Gyepes will sign a deal which will run until December 31st and today "said goodbye" to his team mates at Ferencvaros.

UPDATED July 27: The defender told Sky Sports news earlier "I fly to England this afternoon in order to sign my loan contract until the 31st of December,"

July 25 Gabor returned to Hungary insisting he still wants to join Wolves despite Anderlecht and Olympiacos joining the hunt for his services. The 24-year-old Ferencvaros man has returned to Hungary after a trial at Molineux to prepare for a Uefa Cup tie with Belarus outfit MTZ-RIPO Minsk but is desperate for a permanent move to the Black Country even though the Belgian and Greek giants have made enquiries. Gyepes turned out in last week's friendly with Port Vale and also travelled to the City of Discovery Cup, where he played in the 4-0 win over Dundee, and he has firmly set his sights on helping Wolves' push for promotion to the Premiership. Manager Glenn Hoddle is yet to decide whether he wants to pursue the defender, but Gyepes said: "Ferencvaros have told me that Olympiacos and Anderlecht are interested in me but I hope to sort something out with Wolves. "I enjoyed my time there very much, I like the club and I want to work with Glenn Hoddle."

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle has invited Hungary defender Gabor Gyepes to Molineux for a four-day trial. Hoddle has been on the look-out for defensive cover throughout the summer and has handed Gyepes the opportunity to earn himself a permanent contract with the Championship outfit. The 24-year-old has made 112 appearances for Ferencvaros since making his first-team breakthrough in 1999 and has since gone on to win 18 caps for his national side. Hoddle is excepted to name Gyepes in his side for Wednesday's friendly at Port Vale, providing he receives the necessary clearance.

JONES MISSES START OF SEASON

Goalkeeper Paul Jones will miss the start of Wolves' Championship campaign after suffering a fractured cheekbone during a pre-season friendly against Dundee. The former Southampton shot-stopper was carried off midway through the first half of Wanderers' 4-0 City of Discovery Cup win over Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday after a collision with Tam McManus. Now the 38-year-old is facing the prospect of two months on the sidelines. Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle told the club's official website: "Paul's fractured his cheekbone and will be out for six to eight weeks which is very disappointing. But it was an accident. "Paul had to come out of his goal, went in with his feet for a 50-50 challenge with their striker and the lad's caught him across the temple and the face

Sammy Clingan

Wolves have turned down £50,000 offers from Chesterfield and Doncaster Rovers, saying the fee is far too small.  So far (2nd August) 4 offers have been rejected.

Wigan Courting Carl?

Rumours abound that Wigan are courting Carl Cort, who has not appeared in either of the first two friendlies.  (Other Repotrs say he is injured).  Wigan need a replacement for Nathan Ellington who has refused a new contract.

MILLER - Black Cats lose interest

Reported By Scott Cooper - July 6 2005 on wolvesfc.co.uk

SUNDERLAND have dropped their interest in Striker Kenny Miller and Molineux old boy Marc Edworthy has joined Derby County.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has admitted that his new Premiership side had dropped interest in Wolves striker Kenny Miller after seeing two bids for the Scottish International rejected.  Wolves rejected two bids, believed to be £1.3M, despite Miller only having one year on his contract.

Wolves bosses declared that they would rather see Miller score 20 goals in the Championship - as he did last season - and go for nothing at the end of the season than sell him for £1.3M now.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy told the BBC "We made a bid, it has been turned down and that is it this article came only two days after other reports said:

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy is ready to up the ante once again in a bid to prise unsettled Wolves striker Kenny Miller from Molineux. The Black Cats chief has so far seen Wolves reject offers of £800,000 and £1m for the 25-year-old, who is on the transfer list and wants to hook up with McCarthy at The Stadium of Light.  McCarthy wants Miller to form a strike partnership with new-boy Jonathan Stead - and will up his bid to around £1.2m, which may well tempt Wolves as the Scot only has one year remaining on his contract. Glenn Hoddle was hoping to build his promotion campaign around the former Rangers striker.  But Miller looks increasingly likely to join Sunderland as they can offer the immediate lure of Premiership football.

BLADES SIGN YOUNG WOLVES STAR

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has added two more talented youngsters to his squad ahead of the forthcoming Championship season. The Blades boss, who handed professional deals to six academy players on Saturday, has snapped up Aston Villa's Kyle Nix, 19, and Gary Mulligan, 20, from Wolves. Both players have signed one-year deals with the South Yorkshire outfit and Warnock is convinced they can make the grade at Bramall Lane. "This is a great opportunity for both lads who have shown great promise," he told the club's official website. "I have watched Mulligan a few times and can say he was the best player on the pitch in those games and Nix did well when we had him at the end of last season, as well as fitting in well with the rest of the squad."

WOLVES INTERESTED IN RIORDAN

Hibernian have insisted their contract offer is still on the table for transfer-listed striker Derek Riordan. The young starlet has expressed his "hurt" at being put on the list by the club after he rejected their terms. Wolves and Sunderland are known to be two English clubs waiting to test Hibernian's resolve before the transfer window closes on 31 August - but Celtic and Rangers have also been linked to him.Riordan, who was called into the Scotland squad at the end of last season, still has 14 months left to run on his contract but the club insist they still want to keep him. "The club made an offer of a new contract to the player which was the best offer we could have made and that's still there," said a spokesperson. The 22-year-old has been put on the list and weighed down with the burden of a £1m price tag. Wolves are looking to raid Scotland again after the capture of Celtic skipper Jackie McNamara, while Premiership new-boys Sunderland are monitoring the situation closely after pulling out of their proposed move for Ricardo Fuller.

STUBBS LOOKING TO WOLVES

Everton contract rebel Alan Stubbs has appeared to have played his last game for Everton. He failed to report for pre-season training on Friday as the rest of the squad began the countdown to the new season, with boss David Moyes resigned to losing his services.

Stubbs, who skippered the side last season is unhappy and is looking to move but with Stubbs known to be interesting Wolves his time at Goodison Park is surely up.

Rasiak & Idiakez

Rumours abound that Wolves have made a £2m bid to Derby for Grzegorz Rasiak and Idigo Idiakez. Both certainly impressed last season.  The story also has it that Derby have rejected the offer.  Derby’s fan site reports Derby County manager Phil Brown has warned any interested clubs to forget about trying to pinch his better players.

Brown was responding to speculation that Championship rivals Wolverhamptom Wanderers had made a £2m bid for Grzegorz Rasiak and Inigo Idiakez. "There has been no bid and I will do everything within my power to keep hold of my key players," he said. "If Wolves had made such a bid, in my eyes it would not be anywhere near enough for the two players. "I'm looking to build a squad and I want to hang on to those players." Director of football Murdo Mackay has confirmed the club's determination to keep Rasiak and Idiakez, just as he did on a number of occasions last season. "We haven't received any Wolves offers for Grzegorz and Inigo," he said. Wolves are believed to have made an enquiry about the pair about five weeks ago but no bid. Their approach was rejected at the time and the Molineux club have since turned to other targets.

MORE TRANSFER STORIES

Jez Moxey confirmed June 27th that Wolves have a number of offers in for players, but are waiting for responses from their clubs.  Meanwhile the first players have reported back for training including Jackie McNamara.

The off-season speculation started with favorite rumours will centred on a bid for WWLSC Player of the Season Joleon Lescott: eg  May 10th Arsene Wenger is after him Joleon & Arsenal As if to prove  that our players are being watched Glenn said that he was watching Matt while he was manager at Spurs..  Although Joleon is under contract for two more years, the E&S reports that Wolves are working on a new contract to make our best player also our highest paid player in a bid to head off a Premiership raid at the end of the season.  At the same time Incey has been singing his praises on the Wolves site here. The Express & Star reportsManager Glenn Hoddle has been won over by Lescott's potential while captain Paul Ince made it clear this week just how important the 6ft 2in defender is to club prospects:

"He came back last year and was awesome," said Ince. "If we are going to get promoted next year we are going to need to keep Joleon Lescott.
"If he goes we will struggle to replace him because there is no doubt he will play for one of the top three clubs and his country."

    JACKIE McNAMARA

Jackie impressed us all with his defensive and attacking performances but fell foul of the Wolves’ injury jinx and was ruled out for the season after sustaining cruciate ligament damage on the training ground.  Feb 10th - news that Jackie may return before the end of the season....

Wolves' Jackie McNamara is hoping to be back before the end of the season. The Scottish international moved to Molineux in the summer, but after just nine games he suffered a cruciate knee injury which looked to have ended his campaign. However, the 32-year-old's progress has been very good and he is now looking at a possible return in six weeks. "On my last visit to the surgeon he said he was happy with the way it was progressing and that I was a little bit ahead of schedule," he said. "So I am hoping I'll get the green light to be involved in things again in six weeks or so. "I have always been hopeful that I would play some part in the season again, and that is my aim as long as things keep going well. "I am just at the frustrating part now where I feel good and I think I could go on and do more, but I have to hold back a little bit. "The risk is always that I could set myself back by doing too much and so I have to try and not get ahead of myself."

Earlier........

Three weeks before the pre-seasons start and Glenn says he’s after 4 or 5 players.  This was reinforeced in the Scotsman who report today 14th June that Celtic’s captain Jackie McNamara, unhappy at getting the “Butler treatment”, is to leave and join the Wolves - a great capture for Wolves for a player still only 31 and who’s career still has far to go. The Club have now confirmed he came in for his medical 14th June and signed that day. Here’s what the Scotsman said earlier in the day....

CELTIC captain Jackie McNamara will end his ten-year association with the Parkhead club today when, subject to passing a medical, he expects to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 31-year-old Scotland international, who finished the season without being offered a new contract by Celtic, has agreed a two-year deal with the Molineux club.

McNamara's departure will come as a severe blow to new Celtic manager Gordon Strachan who, on his appointment as Martin O'Neill's successor earlier this month, expressed the importance of holding on to the services of a player who has been a mainstay of the club in recent seasons.  The Scotsman understands, however, that when Celtic finally offered McNamara a new deal last week, it was only for one year. It was immediately rejected and although Celtic came back to the table yesterday with a two-year deal, a frustrated McNamara had already given Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle his word that he would join the ambitious Coca-Cola Championship club.

"I never imagined my time at Celtic would end like this," McNamara said last night, "and I would have preferred to have signed a new contract with the club several months ago. It was really disappointing that didn't happen and disappointing that there was only a one-year deal on the table when it finally came.

"I had always hoped to finish my career with Celtic but I felt I was in a position where I had to make a choice that was the right one for my family and myself in the circumstances. Wolves made me a good offer, they made me feel wanted and I was impressed with what Glenn Hoddle had to say. If the medical goes without a hitch, then I will definitely be signing for Wolves.

It appears there was an assumption, subconscious or otherwise, among Celtic officials that McNamara's services could be taken for granted but the club now find themselves losing one of their most consistent and effective performers as a result of their failure to offer him the extended contract his displays over the past two seasons unquestionably merited.

McNamara was one of the lowest paid first-team players at the club and, in fact, took a wage cut last year when he agreed a one-year contract. There was compensation in the form of a testimonial match for his decade of service, with some 50,000 attending the fixture against the Republic of Ireland last month, the day after he had captained the side to victory in the Scottish Cup final against Dundee United.

The player continued to express his hope after the match that his time with Celtic would be extended under new manager Strachan, who would have been the seventh he had served under since moving to Parkhead from Dunfermline in a £650,000 deal in October 1995.

Voted Player of the Year by the Scottish Professional Footballers' Association in 1998 and then by the Scottish Football Writers' Association in 2004, McNamara won four league championship medals, three Scottish Cup and three League Cup winners medals. He made 347 appearances in total for Celtic, a tally it was fully anticipated he would add to next season.

"It is hard to believe I am leaving the club," he said. "It's been fantastic to play for Celtic for so long and during such successful times for the club. The supporters have been great to me and it is a real wrench from that point of view but it came to a point where this was the decision I had to make.

"Wolves will be an exciting challenge for me. They are a big club and Glenn Hoddle is really ambitious for them. He is determined to win promotion to the Premiership next season and I hope I can help them achieve it."

McNamara, capped 30 times by Scotland, will join compatriots Kenny Miller and Colin Cameron at Molineux where former England manager Hoddle recently signed a new contract along with captain Paul Ince. Wolves finished six points off the play-offs last season and are providing the manager with the resources required for a return to the Premiership   GO TO www.scotsman.com to register for their services

OLDER RUMOURS PUT TO BED

Hopes of a loan of Spurs one-time England centre back Anthony Gardner were shattered when he seemed set to go to Charlton for £3m, which sounds like a bargain.

One favourite rumour was of course around Glenn Hoddle signing (but that was put to bed 16th May) Glenn
and then around who we’ll bring in.and release.  Paul Ince ended speculation about him leaving by signing for another year, but nearly left - more on Paul here

Joachim Bjorklund joins the 500 odd pros on the market after being released although there are rumours that he’ll retire.  Mikkel Bischoff has also been discarded in spite of excellent performances in his first loan spell. read. Rumours were that Stuart Pearce newly appointed manager of Man City were looking to use Mikkel in a makeweight deal for Camarat.  Joachim only managed half a match this year and that at right back (against Arsenal in the FA Cup, where he did a good job.  Rumours that Keith Andrews was off to Hull were quickly confirmed when a two year deal was announced 25th May by Hull here

On 1st June the Wolves site reported that Jez had turned down a seven figure sum from Sunderland for Kenny Miller. The site said we couldn’t replace a 20 goal scorer for the amount offered.   Cleary though he’s not been offered first choice player by Glenn and has remained on the transfer list and speculation is there that this is to beat the price up as much as any desire to keep him and then let him leave on a Bosman at the end of the season.  Sunderland upped the ante but this was again rejected and both Glenn and Incey have come out strongly to support him

George Ndah was out of contract in June, having not played a compeitive game for two years, and each o his attempts to get back into full traning have been plagued with further injury.  The exciting forward who joined us in 1999 has only managed 46 starts and 30 games as substitute in all that time after 3 on loan from Swindon.  He’s scored 18 goals, some of them though the most spectacular to be seen at Moli. Glenn told him to report for pre-season to try to prove his worth but he has now been given a performance related contract for a year.  He declared he wanted to be at Wolves despite other offers.

Silas’ loan in Portugal has been extended by a year (2nd June) but with Belenses who have a £1.5m option to buy.  Wolves have an option to extend at the end of this next year.  Glenn will continue to watch him during the year.

There are rumours about Alex Rae returning from his championship winning contribution to Rangers according to a “fan who sat next to him on a flight”.  Wolves are also rumoured to be after Jeremie Aliadiere and Pascal Cygan from Arsenal

Rohan Ricketts was released by Spurs, and as expected from the comments he made around the Reading match, Glenn’s signing must made us the favourites to take him on. The club have confirmed that we want to talk with him after “he impressed when with us” most notably scoring the winning goal against Reading (here) 23rd May the Club announces that he will sign at the end of June when the Spurs contract expires, which he did.

Glenn said that the priority was to sort out player contracts and already goalies Matt Murray and Michael Oakes have signed new three and two year deals respectively, while there are rumours that Jonah is off to join DJ at Cardiff.  See contracts status page

Glenn agreed to transfer list Kevin Cooper because he has not been able to command a regular first team place.  The club announced that he will be reunited with DJ at Cardiff. His appearances have been sporadic, and although he has lit Molineux up once or twice - notably ending the penalty famine - he has never really been consistent.  Rumours are that Neil Wrnock is putting in an offer and that’t what prompted the transfer request. Story  Here’s Coops penalty again

In the meantime Glenn has said that he could welcome Henri Camara who refused to play for the club a year ago.  His loan spells have been succesful financially for the Wolves, but his eratic finishing and passing failed to impress at Celtic or the Saints, who will be playing us next season after their relegation. Glenn says he can make him a better player.  He asked London Wolves whether we would welcome him back... “probably, if he started scoring” was the reply. However, early reports from Willie Mackay that he would come back have been replaced by “there is no way he will play for Wolves” quotes from the agent.

Keep up to date here on this page.

Andrews to Hull

Midfielder and long term player for Wolves, Northern Irish international, Keith Andrews joined newly promoted Hull City on a free transfer as he had come to the end of his contract.  Hoddle invited him to stay but he decided to move on even though earmarked as an Ince replacement..  Keith had come in for a lot of stick from home supporters for “sideways” passing in spite of making several significant match defining passes.  Keith made 22 appearances for Wolves last season and scored his first first team goal in the 4-2 league cup win.

We’re Going up as Champions

Joleon, interviewed by E&S reporter Steve Marshall says “We want the title”. "Every season is a big season, not just for me but for the club," said the 22-year-old defender. We want to be in the Premiership and that's no different this season.

"The only difference this season is that we're not looking at the play-offs, we want to go up as champions. Hopefully we can do that

JEZ MOXEY ON RADIO WM 14th December 2005

Wolves CEO Jez appeared on a fans’ phone in on the Paul Franks Football Show on Radio WM  13th December (to be broadcast 14th December)- here are the  highlights

Jez Moxey participated in a fans' forum with  Paul Franks Daz Hale  & Tony Butler of Radio WM in the Victoria Club in Wolverhampton on 13th December.

Q from Tony:  if WW go up - are the Club ready - have the board learnt from their mistakes last time?

Jez: Hope we've learnt; trying to stay there from a fotball perspectiveWe spent 6.5m acquiring new players - we spent what we could; but we didn't spend wisely

whose fault was that then?

JM we weren't prepared ; the manager is given a budget; it isn't Moxey saying you should buy this player.... but we might tell him to balance it up with younger and experienced.  It's up to a manager to select the players he wants.

Daz: promotion came as a shock;  then Jez & his merry men wnet off on holiday and when they got back they went rushing around trying to get people in.  Does Moxey still see Wolves as a Grimsby?

JM Our potential is to get just below the top 4 in the Premiership

Daz - everyone was let down;  DJ wasn't given a lot of money - but listed poor purchases eg Silas Okoronkwo etc

This season very much alive.  Only two points off top 6 with 23 to go.

Paul Franks - fantastic day at Cardiff and then not enough investment;  Camara was played wide when Wolves weren't a million miles away from staying up and then started playing down the middle and we played better;  lessons have to be learnt... eg Wigan shored things up at the back - with pace up front.  They and West Ham will also be sucked into relegation.

JM - I postponed his holiday to get to work!  Hopefully we have learnt.

Stuart: In the summer it was said proceeds from Camara sale would go to GH - but Glenn has only enough for one quality player;

JM We invested in player wages - during the negotiations with Glenn we said - you can start with that amount + £2m plus some more from the Camara sale... some was to go into the training ground.  Wage bill is already over the committed number.  Squad is good with internationals.  We are just about to complete signing of Gabor Gyepes; close to doing another deal;  and the striker position is "on-going".  Looking to bring a couple or three quality players.  We haven't given up

Why aren't Wolves in top two?- Tony - fantastic effort by DJ to get promotion but it can be repeated;  why are we missing so many chances - is there a mental thing  - maybe too much of a comfort zone because they are on high wages.   They are not tough enough

Daz - too many fancy dan managers in the League - you don't need a Hoddle you need battlers - and rethink it when needed eg Olofinjana just not good enough and don't have culture of fighting and battling.   Glenn got annoyed when they said "too pretty" in an interview.

JM: I see the same things you see.  My authority goes to a certain point but  still get blamed - had lunch with Director of another Champ club with £8m turnover and they are higher then us.  Disagree with Tony - really believe GH is the right man.  Effort is very commendable but we are missing chance after chance.

Daz - 28 goals in 23 games - very poor - 55% of games since Hoddle has been in charge are draws

(to JM) if you're pleased then god help you,

JM target = 2 points / game We have 6 strikers Seol, Kenny, Carl, Vio,  but have missed through injury - have lost 178 missed appearances through injury Vio still trying to come back, ...and the others.

£2m of Camara money promised  - but Glenn said he was happy with squad but obsessed with Derby boys and had no plan B.   Jez says there is a plan, but it;s a big jigsaw.

Audience: Wolves did not replace Buts and Alex - and thus had no leaders on the pitch

JM If we get up will Glenn have the money;  Rick has made promises.

Ian - when SJH put the club up for sale wasn't it bought.

Tony - not sure SJH really wanted to sell it.  Used it to take the heat off - because of the stick he was getting.

Daz - I think he did want to sell - but local consortium was needed - maybe too many conditions.

JM Misconception - SJH never put club up for sale - he would give it away to anyone who came forward and did what he had been doing - putting lots of money (at least £40m into the infrastructure).  Not one serous person came for.  There is a misconception about the number of people who really want to give huge amounts of money to a football club.  We are extremely fortunate to have a benefactor - SJH put £55-60m in and has taken nothing out.

JM - has an immense sense of responsibility - Rick stepped up when - his view on the Hayward exit - we must get to the premier league

JM - Kenny Miller ;  have made 3 formal offers (since the summer) and each time he's knocked it back.  Met with JM and GH to clarify.  Kenny still said it's not about money - it's about keeping his options open.

one more go with his agent  next week to try.  And we will try to keep him

Kenny wants to play and will be totally committed.  He will not go for a derisory amount in Janaury.  It's about 20 goals a season

A Rangers fan said the Scottish vibes were that he was going there.

JM spoke to David Murray. who said Rangers know about him.   We wouldn't pay him what you do (but that could be a bluff)

Q: What about the youth/acedemy?

JM It;'s very important - costs around £950,000 a year.  Developed many players who are doing very well - Joleon, Lee.  Mark Davis, Mark Little Martin Riley all coming through, and we hope to see more

Gareth; Koumas said he chose Cardiff over Wolves.  JM: He's being disingenuous - we inquired but never tried to sign him.

Can a Baggies player do a good job - there's more pressure to do a good job - but if you do you quickly wins players over.

Players can still get their money without performing.

Are you offering Kenny too much money?

JM The club and fans deserve more than we're getting.  Our team has been "putting the shift in" just need a Steve Bull or Kenny scoring;  we haven't been getting goals from midfield either.

Tony - They're not scoring because players aren't getting in the box.  Some of the players have been improved technically.  Hoddle's a great coach but there's a difference from being a good manager.  Can he grab a player and tell him to "get out there and do a job".

JM - he is right up there with the very best.   I don't go into the dressing room and hear the talks, but the players say he does give them a grilling. They are training double sessions.  Quite a few players have come out and said he's made them a better player.

Daz Glenn Hoddle's been there a year - will GH be there next season if we don't get promoted.

JM Yes he will

Audience - parachute is coming to an end.  Will we have to sell Joleon?

JM If we lose the £7m then we will be a different club.  We will have some very difficult decisions but it's still all to play for.

Panel was asked - would you get rid of Hoddle if not promoted - panel replied "Yes"

Audience - why isn't Bully on the training pitch rather than doing PR and what does Carl Hoddle do?

JM GH asked for an assistant - we said we have Stuart who you've already worked with - GH said happy with that and Gorman happy at Wycombe;  want to bring Carl on to help with scouting;  he's there as a support person for Glenn and he's the only one brought in.  JM does not believe back room staff should be cleared out by a new manager

JM on Bully;  Steve great servant to the club;   Bully's not asking to get involved and he  doesn't have the qualifications.

Q? Silas position; played a handful then two years on loan..

JM Not one of our best purchases;  we have an option to extend (a mechanism to help us sell him). GH has seen him play once or twice (audience - well that's more than us then!) and Carl has.   Better to have him in a shop window

    HODDLE ORDERS WIDER PITCH

Glenn Hoddle has ordered a widening of the Molineux pitch in a bid to "beat the bores" next season. Hoddle believes extra width will help his side overcome the Championship rivals who come to Molineux to frustrate Wolves with negative tactics. The length will remain unaltered but the Wolves manager has asked for an extra six foot - three feet on either flank - to be added to the pitch. It has measured 110yds x 75yds in the past but will be "stretched" to 110yds x 77yds for next season. And Hoddle explained how he believes widening the playing area could help his Wolves end frustrating afternoons for the home fans. "I learned a lot from my six months here last season, particularly in the way teams come here and play," he says.

"Not many come here and take us on in an open game - only Ipswich and Sunderland attempted that last season. But we frequently face five across midfield and opposition determined to deny us space and frustrate us. "I know what we're going to do. I know how I want to play. We came on to a really good shape last season that suited us. But there will be times when we need to change it, either during a game or for a specific match.

MURRAY HOPEFUL OF RETURN

21st March 2006

Matt has gone out on loand for the rest of the season so that he can get regular first team football.  The loan is subject to a 24 hour recall after the first 28 days.

Matt had begun to play regular reserves football after breaking his foot in January 2005.

Latest 26 Sep 2005

Wolves say that Matt’s progress remains encouraging following more tests and that he can continue to step up his training work.  The picture shows him swapping ends during his last match (v West Ham)

Latest 6 Sep 2005

Matt's last match v West HamWolves report that Matt Murray has taken another step towards full fitness. The keeper, who is rehabilitating from a foot injury, is back doing restricted training with the rest of the club's goalkeepers  However, he has been told to wait until the results of a scan scheduled for September 21 are known before he launches into full training.
In the meantime, Matt has to content himself with the occasional 'treat' of being let out of the gym
"I'm climbing the walls in there!" he groans. "I'm allowed out two or three times a week to train with Bobby (Mimms) and the boys. It's my treat!
"But I'm gradually getting back into the swing of things now. I'm doing the same work as the other lads with the exception of crosses. My surgeon doesn't want me to do those until after my scan later this month
"Hopefully then I'll really be able to push on do full sessions."

Earlier news
Wolves keeper Matt Murray is hopeful a visit to a London foot specialist will hand him the green light to return to full training. Murray has been dogged by a foot injury for the last couple of years, but is hopeful there will soon be light at the end of the tunnel. Wolves clearly have faith in the 24-year-old as they handed him a new deal in May and the keeper is hopeful of repaying the club in the near future. "I've hardly stopped this summer working on the injury and it's looking good at the moment," he told the Express and Star. "I had a scan this week and my doctor told me the results are encouraging.”I'm going to see the foot specialist in London and hopefully I'll get the all clear to move my training up a gear, perhaps even start running when all the lads come back on Monday.

"But I won't be able to join in with them for a bit yet." Murray, who does not believe he will be back in action before September, added: "I'm determined to take my time with this one and I'm not setting myself any targets which I've done in the past.”I've spoken to the gaffer about that and he supports me 100 percent. When I come back next time I want everything to be right."

GANEA AND NDAH GET ALL CLEAR FOR SPAIN

Long-term injury worries Vio Ganea and George Ndah have been given the all-clear to join Wolves training trip to Spain next week. The pair, key components in Wolves' plans for the forthcoming campaign, have passed the first test of their pre-season comeback schedule. With transfer speculation swirling around fellow strikers Kenny Miller and Henri Camara, the two injury-stricken forwards are earmarked for potentially vital roles. Romanian striker Ganea missed last season with cruciate knee ligament damage while Ndah, given one final chance at Wolves to prove he can overcome a string of injury problems, has not played for two seasons. Boss Glenn Hoddle is monitoring their progress closely and was prepared to leave them behind when Wolves head for southern Spain and a week's intensive training work on Monday. But both have seats booked on the flight with Hoddle saying: "We won't be taking any chances with either and it's a case of taking it day by day.”But so far things are looking good and they are coming with us to Spain. Vio was going well last season but he suddenly developed pain around the area of his operation.

"That stopped him playing for the first team again. He was not quite as far forward as we wanted him to be and the specialist has advised caution. We're taking it day by day with Vio and the same with George. "We have opted to give him a contract because I have seen enough to know that if we can get him up to match fitness, he will be very valuable to us. In fact, we are trying to sign exactly the type of player George is.

Clydey injured again

Mark Clyde looks to be out for a month.  Wolves defender Mark Clyde will miss the start of the season after undergoing an ankle operation.

The Northern Ireland international has had a keyhole surgery after picking up a problem late into Wolves' training camp in Spain.

Clyde has not featured in any of Wolves' pre-season friendlies and boss Glenn Hoddle today revealed he is not expecting the 22-year-old to be ready for action for at least three weeks.

"Mark has had keyhole surgery on his ankle," confirmed Hoddle.

"It's nothing serious but he should be back in another three weeks for a reserve game if everything goes well."

This latest injury is another blow to Clyde who missed the closing three months of last season with a knee problem that also required surgery.

BIG FOUR GIVEN EXTRA TIME

Wolf’s manager Glenn Hoddle has told four of his players they can take an extra week's break before returning to pre-season training.  Seyi Olofinjana, Ki-Hyeon Seol, Henri Camara and new signing Jackie McNamara will report back on 3 July - a week after their team-mates.
Hoddle sanctioned the extra rest as Olofinjana, Seol and Camara have been on international duty, while McNamara, a recent signing from Celtic, did not finish his season in Scotland until the end of May.  Assistant manager Stuart Gray told the club's official website: "All four of the lads have been training for longer than the rest of the players in our squad and, more importantly, they've been involved in big matches for their country - or in Jackie's case for his former club, Celtic.” Their season didn't finish until three weeks after ours and then Jackie's had the upheaval of arranging a move south to Wolves. "In addition to those things, his wife has recently given birth and so Glenn felt it only right to allow him a few more days, like the other three lads, to relax and get ready for reporting back for pre-season.”We'll look forward to the full squad joining together a week on Sunday and then we'll travel as a club to Spain for a week's camp."

FAVOURITES MEET

Wolves’ first game will be against joint favourites for promotion Southampton.

Wolves’ manager Glenn Hoddle will return to former club Southampton for the opening game of the Championship season at St Mary's on 6 August. The Molineux chief, who left Saints in acrimonious circumstances in 2001 to join Tottenham, guided Wolves to an 18-match unbeaten streak at the end of last season to ensure Wanderers now rank high among the promotion favourites. The festive programme will see Wolves entertain Reading on Boxing Day, before travelling to Sheffield Wednesday and then taking on Plymouth at Molineux on New Year's Eve.2006 will begin with a trip to Coventry's Ricoh Arena on 2 January.
Wanderers' season will close at newly-relegated Norwich.

CONNOR REMAINS AT WOLVES

Within two weeks of anouncng that he was staying, it was announced that Terry is off to Leeds.

Bristol City have failed in their bid to lure former first-team coach Terry Connor away from Wolves and back to Ashton Gate. The Robins approached Wanderers last week about the possibility of Terry making a return to the club. But after discussions with City chairman Steve Lansdown, the Leeds-born coach has decided to remain at Molineux. "I have spoken to Jez Moxey [Wolves chief executive] and after having discussions with Bristol City, I feel it is better for me to stay at Wolves," Terry told Wolves' official website. "I have been a coach at City before but I didn't feel it was the right thing for me to do to return this time." Terry was first-team coach at Ashton Gate under John Ward during the late 1990s and followed Ward to Molineux in 1999.

Glenn Hoddle to stay three years

Following positive reports that negotiations are going well (see Express & Star article here) the Daily Mail reported on May 7th “Glenn Hoddle will sign a three year deal with Wolves by next week at the latest”. The deal turned out to be a rollog 12 month contract.

Newts promoted again - Wolves £115,000 windfall

Shaun Newton, whose kit London Wolves sponsored, and who left Wolves in March to join promotion candidates West Ham for £10,000 has been promoted to the Premiership again - now with Wolves, Charlton and West Ham as his new club won the promotion play off final in Cardiff on May 30th against Preston North End 1-0. Shaun played an instrumental part in the win, wiith some of his trademark runs, but, most importantly, a goal line clearance at 0-0 which could have changed the course of the match.  Alan Pardew named in the starting line up as an attempt to win the game from the start. His transfer fee with only 3 months left on his contract had a £115,000 windfall clause for Wolves.  Good luck Shaun.

PAUL INCE

Ince: I've still got lots to learn

Midfielder Paul Ince says he has plenty still to learn from Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle before one day becoming Molineux manager himself. Ince has already begun preparing for a management role by undertaking coaching courses. But although he had signalled his intention to continue playing until at least the end of next season, the 38-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season Ince, who is expected to be offered a new deal, said: "I want to stay at Wolves, I've enjoyed my time here and I love working with the gaffer. "My ambition is to manage this club eventually. I've learned a lot from the gaffer but I've got more to learn and he's the kind of person I want to manage like."  Paul was also reported by eyewitnesses at his celbration dinner 25th April as saying “when I manage Wolves”

INCE HOPING FOR RECALL

Veteran midfielder Paul Ince is pushing for a recall ahead of Wolves' home clash with Reading. The 38-year-old midfield enforcer spent four months on the sidelines recovering from a torn thigh muscle before proving his fitness in a 90-minute reserve-team outing in midweek. Central defender Jody Craddock is back from a calf injury and Mark Davies has recovered from a hernia operation. But the game could come too soon for George Ndah as the striker has yet to complete his recovery from a hamstring strain, while fellow forward Carl Cort is certain to miss out once more following knee surgery. Jackie McNamara will also be absent thanks to cruciate knee ligament damage and goalkeeper Matt Murray remains short of match sharpness following an operation to repair his broken foot. Gabor Gyepes, who is set to make his move to Molineux permanent once the transfer window re-opens, is just one yellow card away from incurring a one-game suspension

INCE CONTEMPLATES EARLY RETIREMENT

Wolves midfielder Paul Ince has confessed he contemplated early retirement after falling victim to the injury which continues to keep him on the sidelines. Ince had announced in the summer the possibility of him calling time on an illustrious 20-year playing career at the end of the current campaign. But the 38-year-old, who counts West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Middlesbrough among his former clubs, has failed to kick a ball in anger since August. A thigh muscle injury sustained in Wolves' second match of the season has restricted Ince to the treatment room, and the combative midfielder has since admitted he had been ready to call it quits. "I did consider packing it all in because being out for so long gets you down," Ince said. "But you try to be positive and retiring in the middle of the season isn't an option at the moment."

PAUL INCE SAYS SORRY TO THE FANS

Paul’s contract renewal suffered a few hiccoughs before being resolved including talks with Sheffield United. Jez Moxey said 31st May that negotiations with Incey were going well to keep him at Moli next season. However it took the intervention of Glenn Hoddle to resolve the negotiations with Incey saying he almost left.  This seems to be around the value that Moxey put on the table compared with Paul’s own valuation.

1st August:  Paul confirmed to Steve Marshall of the E&S that this was almost certainly his last year and he was busy taking his coaching badges.  Steve again writes that Paul would like to be the Wolves’ manager in the future. “I want to go out with a bang” he says.  “I want the team to be successful and I feel that this will be my last year.  And if it is I want to go out and get promoted.”

earlier news:  Paul Ince is pleased with his own performance and hopes to stay at Molineux next season "Personally I'm very pleased with the way I've performed this year, particularly after coming back from injury, but it's not about me, it's about the punters who come and support us. "They've had a hard and frustrating season and I can only apologise on our behalf." "Here the fans know what I'm all about and there's no reason for me to leave Wolverhampton unless they tell me I've got to go."

Paul was quoted 1st August as saying this is definitely (maybe) his last season.

CLUB PLAYER OF THE SEASON IS JOLEON LESCOTT
As announced after the Sheffield 4-2 win

SPECULATION ABOUT GLENN HODDLE’S FUTURE
The Times ran an article last week saying that talks were about to begin
and the club confirmed they are keen to start talks “which may lead to a contract”

LONDON WOLVES PLAYER OF THE SEASON IS JOLEON LESCOTT
As announced at the Meet the Players

LAST TIME AT HIGHFIELD ROAD
Saturday’s match (16th April) will be the last we play at Highfield Road as Coventry have a new stadium - the Arena. You can even buy some turf from Highfield Road http://www.ccfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/EndOfAnEra/0,,10269,00.html

The Arena is here - as things stand it looks as though we will be going there next season, although it would be good to gain revenge for the 1-0 defeat at Moli in November.

WOLVES PUBLISH THEIR ACCOUNTS

So we made a £5million  profit in the Premiership.  It would have been £1.2m more if the abject performance against Tottenham had been a win, or at least £2m more if we’d stayed up.  False economies - most fans would have preferred a loss and staying up.  The official story is here - the match day programme against Ipswich has further commentary from Jez Moxey.   Chairman Rick Hayward has defended the CEO’s £500,000 salary (click here).

The published figures for the 2003-4 cover the club's season in the FA Premier League and reveal turnover of £38mil - up 133% on the previous year's figure of £16.3mil. The increase was primarily due to Sky TV revenue paid to Premiership clubs.
Payroll costs showed a second consecutive annual increase of around £4mil. The 2002/03 figure - which included large promotion bonuses - had increased to £15.2mil from the previous year's £11.4mil. The 2003/04 Premiership season figure stood at £19.3mil - just over 50% of turnover.
The 2003/04 accounts show a profit after player transfers of just under £5.2mil, compared with a £9.2mil loss the previous year. Wolves last posted a profit at the end of the 1999/2000 season during which Robbie Keane was sold to Coventry for £6million

MURRAY AND NDAH EDGE CLOSER

24 Dec 2005: Striker George Ndah and goalkeeper Matt Murray are edging closer to full fitness at Wolves' Compton training complex. Murray has failed to feature for the Molineux club so far this season after having undergone surgery to repair a rebroken foot. And Ndah is on the way back from a hamstring niggle. Club physio Barry Holmes told Wanderers' official website: "George Ndah has gone back into training and so now he'll be working on improving his fitness for the coming games. "And Matt Murray has now returned to light training as well. "He's not been involved in a match situation yet but that's what he's working towards."

FA CUP HEROES

Clubs across the country are being asked to nominate their all-time FA Cup heroes in celebration of the competition's 125th anniversar from its founding in 1881.  Over the years football fans have been treated to some of the most memorable performances by players from the smallest of non-league teams to the game's elite clubs.
Wolves have played no small part in the history of the world's finest domestic knock-out competition and there are doubtless many players that will spring to mind as fans look to recall their all-time favourite FA Cup performances. Each club is being asked to put forward the names of one goalkeeper, one defender, one midfielder, one forward and a manager. A total of 125 clubs will be taking part and therefore an initial roll of 625 names put forward. These will be studied by a panel of experts who will devise a shortlist of 25 candidates in each position. A final vote will take place on the FA's website TheFA.com and the ultimate team of heroes announced prior to next May's Final.
The first round of voting at club level must be complete by the end of the month so we are asking fans to send their nominations to us by noon on WednesdayJanuary 25. The most popular choices will then be forwarded to the FA.
Please email your five nominations to webmaster@wolves.co.uk

The Willow Foundation
The Willow Foundation was founded in 1999 by former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper and TV presenter, Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, in memory of their daughter, Anna who died of cancer shortly before her 32nd birthday. The charity's name, Willow, stems from Anna's nickname and its aim is to replicate the positive impact special days had on both Anna and her family during her treatment.

Both of the Wilsons continue as Trustees, with Megs taking the position of chair, and both also continue  to be involved in fundraising activities for the Foundation. Anna, a community nurse based in Hertfordshire, was diagnosed as having the very rare form of cancer, malignant schwannoma, at the age of 26. Over the next five years she was to have 16 major operations, numerous treatments and therapies.
Yet it was during these years that Anna, her family and friends experienced some of their most memorable moments and quality times together. When Anna had something to look forward to, her pain was reduced, her spirits lifted and she would feel better. Treats, days out, concerts, shopping trips and just being with friends - simple distractions from her illness - gave Anna the determination and adrenalin to fight on.
She wanted quality of life, quality of time and most importantly, when she became ill, she wanted to be treated as normal. It is these experiences that the Foundation aims to replicate through the provision of special days for other seriously ill young adults living throughout the UK.
Bob Wilson joined Arsenal from Wolves in March 1963. During the next 10 years he made 234 league appearances between the posts. He brought much enjoyment to Arsenal fans and was a key member of the 1970-71 double-winning squad. Bob’s outstanding performances, particularly in the second part of that season, were crucial to the historic achievement of the first Arsenal ‘Double’.

Bob had the unusual distinction of being an England schoolboy international who later won two full caps for Scotland. He has also been associated with all three Doubles in Arsenal’s history, being the goalkeeping coach at Highbury when the club achieved the feat again in 1998 and then for a third time in 2002.
