Matt Murray
The Wolves Goalkeeper, tipped for an England call up looks to be daed cert for Wolves Fans Player of The Season, has already won the London Wolves award and is in the PFA Championship Team of the Season as Goalkeeper
PFA Championship Team of the Year: Matt Murray (Wolves), Graham Alexander (Preston), Gareth Bale (Southampton), Darren Moore (Derby), Curtis Davies (West Brom), Jason Koumas (West Brom), Carlos Edwards (Sunderland), Dean Whitehead (Sunderland), Diomansy Kamara (West Brom), Michael Chopra (Cardiff), Gary McSheffrey (Birmingham)
and he’s also the PFA Championship’s fans’ player of the year too - from the PFA site
Fans' Player of the Year in the Championship is Matt Murray who also had the honour at the weekend of being voted, by his fellow pros, as the top stopper in his division, and with Wolves currently occupying a play-off position it could be a memorable end to what has been a fantastic season for the Molineux keeper.
Graeme Souness bids for the Wolves Strange denial by Moxey
The newspapers report 25th Janiuary that the man behind the Souness bid is Brian Kennedy - owner of Sale Sharks, last season’s Rugby Premiership champions, and who is prepared to up his offer.
The nationals on January 9th carried stories that Graeme Souness had bid £20m for the Wolves. The Wolves issued a denial on the website and via text and later in the day CEO Jez Moxey appeared on Midlands TV saying “we are not in negotiation with Graeme Souness or anyone connected with him”. Meanwhile the Express & Star have carried an interview with Souness claiming that Souness had offered £20m If the offer was rejected then Moxey may be technically accurate, but the club’s recent track record on spinning stories (eg releasing the £27million story immediately after DJ was sacked) must cast doubts on the statement. Meanwhile the Sun reports
Souness confirms Wolves bid
By MIKE ANSTEAD January 09, 2007
GRAEME SOUNESS has confirmed he has made a bid to buy Wolves.
The ex-Newcastle and Liverpool boss is part of a consortium interested in taking over at Molineux.
Wolves owner Sir Jack Hayward will hand over the reins to an investor prepared to pump £20million into the club. Chief executive Jez Moxey had earlier dismissed Souness' approach as nonsense but the Scot has now admitted his bid. Souey said: "I have offered to buy Wolves for £20million. "I don't know why Jez Moxey is saying these things. I have had several telephone conversations with Sir Jack Hayward and I have spoken as well with Jez Moxey. "And last week I made an offer, subject to an examination of the club's books and accounts, of £20m which is the figure Sir Jack had publicly declared he was looking for." Souness attended Wolves' match with Barnsley at Molineux on New Year's Day as a guest of the club, although Moxey claimed that was after a chance meeting on a flight to Florida. The Scot added: "I was told no by Jez Moxey but the offer still stands. It is Sir Jack's football club and if he chooses not to sell it at this time, that's his prerogative. "He can do what he wants. I have a partner and I see the club having vast potential and I will put more money into it if I get the opportunity. "This is not a Johnny Foreigner coming along to make a quick buck. "But Jez has told me no, the offer wasn't acceptable. That's the end of the matter, but it is there on the table."
Sir Jack Confirms the Wolves are for sale for £20m
Sir Jack phoned into the post game show on Radio WM after comments during the match commentary that it was perhaps time to go and that the Haywards had lost interest.
He denied that they had lost interest, saying that he had been up since early listening to the match commentary. He confirmed that the Club is up for sale - he is 83 and a half after all. He said that they had had conversations with the consortium dealing with West Ham but "fortunately" that had come to nothing. The price was £40million when this was mooted before but now even £20million could secure it. None of the money was to go to him, it was all for investment in the Club. Sir Jack implied he would much prefer a local consortium to put a deal together because of the long term association with the Club - saying how much he admired Sir Jack Walker at Blackburn. He hadn't met Milan Mandaric for a long time (in spite of MM's visit last season when he was said to be an old friend of SJH's) but knew him well when Portsmouth were in the same division. If Milan Mandaric were to contact him he would be happy to speak. It would also seem a better deal since the money would go into the club rather than to shareholders as would happen if he took over Leicester.
He certainly hoped that Matt Murray would stay, saying he was a really nice man with a lovely family, and the Club had really looked after him during his periods of injury.
Money was available for Mick in January - but you'd have to ask Jez Moxey how much. Money had been made available to him already but he had done a really great job on loans. He reminded WM that Mick had been appointed by him and Jez Moxey.
Well done to WM to have provoked a good call from Sir Jack - and answer many of the questions which probably would have gone unanswered.
Matt Murray keeps the faith
Matt keeps the faith - and keeps the faithful hoping. Clearly Matt Murray will be the key to a promotion season, and we’re delighted that he has signed an enhanced contract. Garry writes “Matt Murray has pledged his future to Wolves by signing a long-term contract extension. The keeper has established himself as the number one under Mick McCarthy and his impressive efforts this term have won him many fans. The club had feared that their number one could be lured away from Molineux, but he has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with an option in place to extend the commitment by a further 12 months should the club return to the Premiership.McCarthy was relieved to thrash out a new deal with the keeper, as he told the club's website: "It's great news for the club that Matt has re-signed."We are trying to build a team here and that's a huge boost because we all rate him very highly and think he's one of the best keepers in the country."This shows his commitment to Wolves and I'm thrilled."
Mick McCarthy named new Wolves boss
Wolves have confirmed former Republic of Ireland and Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy is to become their new manager the 47-year-old, who has signed a 12-month rolling contract, will officially take over as manager on Monday after returning from a holiday in Portugal. He succeeds Glenn Hoddle in the Molineux hotseat after the former England boss left the post complaining of insufficient transfer funds on July 1. McCarthy was sacked by Sunderland in March during a miserable season for the Black Cats which brought just three league wins and ended in relegation. But Wolves will point to his previous record at the Stadium of Light, with McCarthy having steered the Wearside club to the 2004 First Division play-offs in his first full season and then the title in 2005. He will be expected to wheel and deal in the transfer market with Wolves having released or sold several high-earning players this summer following the end of their parachute payments, which followed relegation from the Premiership in 2004. "I'm delighted to be joining Wolves," said McCarthy. "There's a big job to do at Molineux and I'm relishing the challenge. "I can't wait to get down to work. With just two weeks to go before the start of the season there's lots to be done. "It's going to be a busy but exciting time." The Yorkshireman began his managerial career with Millwall in 1992. He became the Republic of Ireland boss in 1996 - taking them to the 2002 World Cup finals and elevating them from 54th to 13th in FIFA's world rankings. He resigned that post in November 2002 and four months later took over as manager at Sunderland, who were already heading for relegation from the Premiership. Wolves' chief executive Jez Moxey added: "We are thrilled to have agreed a deal for Mick to take over as manager of Wolves. He has all the qualities we were looking for in a manager and has an excellent record of football achievement. "I thought the job he did at Sunderland in taking them to third in the Championship in 2003/04 following relegation and then winning promotion as champions in 2004/05 was one of the most impressive managerial jobs I have seen in this division." It would appear McCarthy has already begun working on bringing new players into the club with his former Sunderland centre-half Gary Breen joining Wolves on a two-year contract on Thursday.
Mick’s record
DATE OF BIRTH: February 7, 1959 NATIONALITY: British MANAGERIAL CAREER: 2002 - present Sunderland 1996 - 2002 Republic of Ireland 1991 - 1996 Millwall
PLAYING CAREER: 1990 - 1991 Millwall (player - manager) 1989 - 1990 Lyons 1987 - 1989 Celtic 1983 - 1987 Manchester City 1977 - 1983 Barnsley
HONOURS: Coca Cola Champions - 2005 (Sunderland) Championship Manager of the Year - 2005 (Sunderland)
The towering figure of Mick McCarthy returned to club management in March 2003 when he was named as the new manager at Sunderland, ending a five-and-a-half year term in charge of the Republic of Ireland national side.
Born in Barnsley, he made his debut for his hometown club as an 18-year-old defender. He moved on to Manchester City in 1983 for £200,000 and won his first Ireland cap a year later. He left City in 1987 for Celtic and helped them to the Scottish League and Cup double in 1988 before transferring to France for a brief spell with Lyons.
By March of 1990 McCarthy was back in England, initially on loan with Millwall. A year later, at the age of 32, he became Millwall's manager and steered the Lions to third in the First Division in 1994, narrowly missing out on promotion.
In 1996, McCarthy took over from Jack Charlton as the Republic of Ireland manager, and while he rose to the challenge, his tenure could have benefitted from a little Irish luck. A slow start to the qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup saw the Irish finally book their place in the finals. It was this tournament that turned out to be the most dramatic period of McCarthy's tenure as Ireland manager, including a well-publicised run-in with Roy Keane.
Despite receiving the backing of the FAI during the summer, McCarthy resigned in November 2002. Under his leadership the Irish side had risen from 54th to 13th in Fifa's world rankings in just over five years.
Four months later he was appointed manager of a struggling Sunderland as an immediate replacement for Howard Wilkinson. The Black Cats went down that season, although McCarthy largely escaped the blame, and in April 2005, he secured Sunderland automatic promotion to the Premiership by winning the Championship title. But the following season he lost 22 premiership games but has preserved a good reputation. Captain Jody Craddock
3rd August 2006 Wolves’ Manager announced today that Jody Craddock was to be Wolves’ new Captain following the departure of Paul Ince. Jody had captained the side throughout the pre-season friendlies (pictured here against the Villa and Swansea) and was one of the favourite candidates (with exCeltic captain Jackie McNamara and Gary Breen). Jody said it was a great honour
Jody joined Wolves from Sunderland in 2003-4 as we went up into the Premiership after Sunderland failed to gain promotion and partnered Club Captain Paul Butler throughout the premiership season in a sometimes shaky defence. He scored at Stamford Bridge when we were memorably 2-1 up after 70 minutes unti lJimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored a hat trick. Jody is under contract for a further two years, having signed an extension last season.
Mick and Roy make up
BBC West Midlands report that Mick and Roy Keane - who haven’t spoken after Mick sent the Irish captain home from the World Cup in 2002 have made up. Keane said “life’s too short to hold grudges”. The first result of that is Neill Collins’ loan deal.
Bohemian Ward set for Wolves
Wolves have agreed a fee with Irish side Bohemians for striker Stephen Ward. The 21-year-old impressed on trial at Molineux and boss Mick McCarthy believes he is good enough to command a place at the club. A Wolves spokesperson confirmed Ward had arrived back in the midlands on Thursday morning to complete personal terms.
He said: "We have agreed the basis of the deal with Bohemians. Stephen did well in his trial with us. This is a player the manager wants to sign and we are looking forward to having talks later."
Wolves in battle to sign Gow
Wolves are still hopeful of signing Alan Gow from Falkirk despite Rangers entering the race for the striker's signature Both clubs have seen bids rejected by the Bairns but remain keen to sign a player who has entered the last six months of his contract. Wolves assistant boss Ian Evans revealed the 24-year-old was due to visit Molineux on Wednesday, only to call off the trip as new Rangers manager Walter Smith entered the bidding. Evans said: "He was due to come and have a look at the ground yesterday but the Old Firm stepped in. "If the two big (Scottish) clubs see a good player might be heading south they want to know about it. But we hope we are far enough down the road that he will still come and look around." Rangers saw their offer immediately rebuffed by Falkirk. The Bairns said in a statement: "Falkirk can confirm that they have received and rejected an offer from Rangers for the immediate transfer of Alan Gow. "We are sure that Alan will be very flattered by the interest shown in him by a club the size and stature of Rangers Football Club and this opportunity will no doubt feature very highly in his choice of options as he nears the end of his current contract." The club added: "Supporters should realise a large number of clubs appear to be interested in securing Gow's services and there will no doubt be further discussions during the January transfer window."
Wolves sign Andy Keogh for £500,000
Wolves finally signed Andy after the Irons needed him for last weekend’s match but he won’t be able to debut against the Baggies.
Wolves have made a £500,000 bid for Scunthorpe striker Andy Keogh - and are hopeful of clinching his signature next week. Molineux chief Mick McCarthy will have to wait until after this weekend to find out if his offer for the highly coveted Iron frontman has been successful, because Scunthorpe are relying on Keogh for their top of the table League One clash with Doncaster on Saturday. But Wolves are optimistic that the 20-year-old, who turned down an improved contract offer last week, will be a Wolves player by the end of the month. McCarthy said today: “We have been in contact with Scunthorpe and I think everybody knows I have watched him. We’ll just have to see what happens now.”McCarthy hopes to add the Ireland B international and another striker to his squad before the January transfer window closes. The club were knocked back in their attempts to sign a Premiership forward on loan today, but have not given up hope of adding more players before next Sunday’s eagerley anticipated FA Cup Black Country derby against West Brom. The club lodged a bid of around £500,000 for Keogh, but may be prepared to up their offer and would also consider adding a player to sweeten the deal for the League One side.
Wolves sources have scotched rumours that the club are considering a swoop on Torquay United youngster Jamie Ward and Plymouyh fullback Tony Capaldi. The club have watched both players, but neither are transfer targets this month
Stephen Ward signs
New boy Stephen Ward could be in contention for the Albion clash if his international clearance is received in time.
McCarthy said today that the 21- year-old striker is just a week away from regaining full fitness after finishing his season with Bohemians in Ireland in the autumn.
“Obviously Stephen hasn’t played since the season finished in Ireland back in the autumn, but he is not far away from being ready,” said McCarthy.
“We saw in training that he is approaching fitness and he could be involved as a substitute in the near future. I’m not sure how far he is from playing a ful 90 minutes.”
Craig Fleming in on emergency loan
Wolves have eased their defensive worries by snapping up veteran Norwich defender Craig Fleming on an emergency loan. The 35-year-old stopper joins for a month and is set to go straight into the team to face Cardiff in a vital promotion battle at Molineux tomorrow. Centre-back Fleming has made more than 300 appearances for the Canaries in a 10-year spell at Carrow Road, including 12 games this season. With Rob Edwards, Gary Breen and Jody Craddock all out of the match, manager Mick McCarthy faced the prospect of fielding just one recognised centre-back.
Mark Little signs deal to 2010
Wolves hope to ward off Premiership interest in rising star Mark Little after signing him up to a new long-term contract. The club have tied the teenage defender to a new deal extending to 2010 after a clutch of Premiership clubs - including at least one of the “big four” of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool - started tracking the England under-19 star. Top-flight scouts have been watching Little since the turn of the year and there were genuine fears that the rookie right-back might be poached in the summer. “I have signed until 2010 and it’s great for me,” Little said
N eill Collins signs permanent deal to 2010
Wolves complete Collins capture
Wolves have signed loan defender Neill Collins on a permanent transfer from Championship rivals Sunderland. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract for an initial £150,000 fee which could rise to £250,000 depending on appearances and promotion for Wanderers. Collins has made three appearances for Wolves since first arriving at Molineux from the Black Cats in November. And Collins said: "I am delighted everything is sorted now, I have been here for a while on loan but now I can focus on the future - not just for this season but beyond that.
"It has been a frustrating period for me because I came here from Sunderland wanting to play but have only recently got into the team. "I spoke to the manager a couple of times about it but I think he would have questioned my motivation if I had not been frustrated so he kept telling me I would have a role and to just be patient."
Neil was in on loan from Black Cats
Wolves have bolstered their squad by completing a move to sign Neill Collins on a two-month loan deal from Championship rivals Sunderland. The 23-year-old defender will go straight into manager Mick McCarthy's squad for the weekend clash with Southend at Molineux.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We are delighted to have brought Neill to the club. "Mick felt he wanted to strengthen that area of the team and we wanted to make that happen."
Michael Kightly set to sign but will Sir Alex hijack the deal
The Sun’s Paul Jiggins reports: ALEX FERGUSON has made a bid to sign ‘the Ryan Giggs of non-league’
The Manchester United boss wants Michael Kightly from Conference side Grays and has asked them to name their price for the 20-year-old winger. But Fergie looks set to miss out because Grays have already agreed a sale with Wolves, where Kightly has been on loan for the last five weeks.
The £300-a-week star will complete a £125,000 permanent switch to Molineux on Monday. But he could soon be mixing with Old Trafford’s £60,000-a-week superstars if United follow up their interest and offer Wolves the chance to sell their new recruit for an instant profit in next month’s transfer window.
Grays chairman Mick Woodward revealed: “United have expressed a lot of interest in Michael this week. “They have made a number of enquiries. They asked if we could do a deal but I told them I’d already agreed a deal with Wolves and I wouldn’t go back on my word.
“Michael is an old-fashioned winger — the Ryan Giggs of non-league. He’s got an eye for goal, too.”United scouts saw Kightly score his second goal in three games in Wolves’ 2-0 win at Derby on Boxing Day.

Michael joined on loan from Grays
20 year old Michael Kightly, a former Southend trainee, left the Conference to join the Wolves on loan with a view to a full transfer. He’s scored 18 goals in the rough and tumble of the Conference in his first season.
Owls capture Clarke
Sheffield Wednesday have snapped up Wolves striker Leon Clarke. Clarke was placed on the transfer list at Molineux last week and Wednesday have moved quickly to snap him up. The 21-year-old has inked a two-and-a-half-year deal at Hillsborough after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. Clarke becomes Owls boss Brian Laws' first permanent signing and he will believes the young striker will prove a good addition to the squad. "Leon will be a great acquisition to the team," said Laws. "He gives me a different option up front to those we currently have, which will enable me to change things when required."
Youth graduates sign: Matt Bailey, Elliott Bennett, Liam Hughes, Mark Salmon and Lee Collins
Matt Makes The Grade Another Academy youngster has made the professional grade at Molineux. Eighteen year old Matthew Bailey signed pro forms this morning and will become a member of the first team squad when pre-season training starts in July. The midfielder, from Birmingham, is the fifth this month to be rewarded with a contract until June 2009. Previously Elliott Bennett, Liam Hughes, Mark Salmon and Lee Collins were recruited to the senior ranks.
Academy manager Chris Evans says: "Matt has come to the end of his two year apprenticeship and so the time has come to make a decision on his future. We are delighted that he has impressed sufficiently during his time in the Academy to lead to him being offered a professional contract.
"It will be a new challenge for him, but he has overcome many hurdles since joining the club at the age of eight. Every year he has had to prove he has progressed and he deserves to be given this reward. "Matt has trained with the manager and the first team players recently and he has done well. Now he is going into first team football and he will be treated no different to any of the other, more experienced, players. "He is a level headed and local lad, and he follows on from the four boys the other week who were also offered professional contracts.
"Four of these youngsters have been with us since the age of eight and the camaraderie is there. They all were involved in the Wolves side which won the world under 12 youth tournament in Japan, and then went to the European tournament in the Netherlands. "Matt has been very successful at youth level and we hope and believe that he can now push on in the senior squad."
Wolves tracking Iron strike pair
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is ready to make a double swoop for Scunthorpe strikers Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh McCarthy wants to seal a £1.5million deal for the hitmen in January and is ready to offload Carl Cort to finance the deal.
He told the Daily Mirror: "I'd take them both. I was interested in Freddy Eastwood but now he's scored against Manchester United his price has doubled."
Sharp has rattled in 13 goals for the League One hopefuls and after the departure of Iron boss Brian Laws to Nottingham Forest the duo may be tempted to test themselves at a higher level.
John Oster
Reading winger John Oster is interesting Wolves. Oster, who is behind Glen Little and Seol Ki-Hyeon in the pecking order, is likely to go out on-loan in the coming weeks. Boss Mick McCarthy will know all about the player from his days at Sunderland.
Aaron McLean
Aaron chose to move to second division Peterborough after the Posh were the first to come in with a firm offer. He said other interest by bigger clubs had been flattering but Posh made the first proper offer. Previously..... former Aldershot favourite Aaron McLean - now at Grays Athletic - is believed to be being watched by Wolves. A Wolverhampton Wanderers news article has reported today that they are keeping tabs on Aaron McLean. The 23-year old striker, dubbed non-League footballs hottest property has hit 12 goals so far this term and is being tracked by a host of League clubs, including Wolves. Molineux assistant boss Ian Evans watched the striker score in midweek as Grays lost to Tamworth and, although McLean was subdued in the defeat manager Mick McCarthy believes the player has potential and plans to watch the player again.

PAUL INCE - LEAVES
27th July - Paul Ince’s failure to turn up for training on Monday probably firmed up the decision not to renew his contract and he is likely to move into a coaching job at Swindon with Dennis Wise. Here’s Steve Marshall’s report
Paul ended up at relegation threatened Macclesfield with a hell of a job to do. He brought them to Compton for a practice match following their Cup match against the Saddlers.
Guv'nor says 'over and out' - for now By Steve Marshall July 28, 2006 Paul Ince knew the time was right to bring the curtain down on his Wolves career when Mick McCarthy pipped him to the manager's job. The former England midfielder had made no secret of his desire to replace Glenn Hoddle in the Molineux hot-seat as he looked to take the step from playing to coaching.
Paul Ince: "I'll be back" He had the fans' backing and greatly impressed chief executive Jez Moxey and owner Sir Jack Hayward with his vision for Wolves when interviewed for the post. But it was his lack of managerial experience which ultimately cost Ince his dream and won McCarthy the nod.
Yet, it was ultimately Ince's desire to manage Wolves, coupled with his rapport with the fans, which resulted in the 38-year-old yesterday taking the difficult decision to walk away from a club he had fallen in love with. For the time being at least. In Ince's eyes this is very much adieu as opposed to au revoir, but he recognises his departure is in the best interests of everyone at Molineux. "I always felt that I might have to move on once Mick McCarthy got the job," said Ince. "Of course I'm disappointed not to have got the job myself. But when I didn't get it I knew my rapport with with fans here might make it difficult for Mick and I didn't want that to happen. "Although it's difficult to say goodbye, now is probably the best time for me to leave the club rather than stay on and play for another year. "It will allow Mick to go about his job the way he wants to do it without any unnecessary distractions. "It's a big disappointment to leave the club but I will be back as manager one day."
Ince's four years at Wolves added another chapter to a glittering career which started at West Ham before taking in spells at Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Middlesbrough before arriving at Molineux. And Ince, a veteran of 53 England caps, is in no doubt about the highlights of his time at Wolves after being persuaded not to hang up his boots by former boss Dave Jones. "The play-off final win over Sheffield United was probably the biggest highlight of my four years at Wolves," said Ince. "It was great to play a massive part in getting this club promoted - and the challenge of winning promotion was the main reason Wolves got me to join them in the first place. "To win promotion in that first year was unbelievable. "It was great to see the reaction of the other players who had earned the chance to play in the Premiership, and giving the fans the chance to see their team playing the Arsenals and Manchester Uniteds was fantastic. "Beating Manchester United at home was another highlight because it's always nice to beat your old clubs. "There have been some great times and some bad times too. "Getting relegated was a major disappointment because I felt we didn't strengthen the team enough to try and stay in the Premier League. "Look at Birmingham, they spent some money and had four years in the Premiership, and we should have done exactly the same thing. "Overall, I have had an unbelievable time at Wolves. But all good things come to an end - although I'm hoping this is only the end of part one."
Ince admits he would have rubbished any suggestions that he would spend four years at Molineux when he signed on August 6, 2002. And he insists the support he has received from the Molineux stands in that time convinced him year after year to drag his aching body through another campaign. "I've played for some big clubs during my career and the fans at all of them have been fantastic," said Ince. "But the fans here at Wolves are the best for me. "From day one when I walked in they have shown their support and passion for the team and they have been fantastic to me. "I hope I have been loyal to them in return and I would like to think I have repaid them with the passion I have displayed on the pitch. "It is a love relationship I've got with the fans here and I hope it's not over yet. "But without the support of the fans I couldn't have seen myself staying at Wolves for four years." Ince now has to draw a line under his playing career at Wolves and look to the future.
He's not been short of offers for next season and remains determined to play on for 12 more months after again shelving plans to hang up his boots. Teaming up with old mate Dennis Wise at Swindon is one possibility, but Ince is planning to mull over all his options over the weekend in the Portuguese sunshine. "I've had lots of offers and I intend to play again next year," said Ince. "But my main priority is to have a transitional period where I can do some coaching and get all my badges. "Then if the Wolves job come up again I will have all my qualifications and there won't be any excuses. "I'm sad to be leaving Wolves, but I'm also excited about the prospect of going somewhere else and starting the next phase of my career."
21st July - with Mick McCarthy’s appointment as manager and Ian Evans as number 2 Incey will undoutably be disappointed. Jez Moxey said he had interviewed well but Mick’s experience counted. Mick and Incey will talk about whether he carries on next week. In the meantime he doesn’t have a squad number but the number 8 has been kept clear.
15 July Paul Ince admits he is desperate to be handed the opportunity to manage Wolves after talks with chief executive Jez Moxey. The combative midfielder plans to carry on playing next season but following Glenn Hoddle's resignation he has emerged as a leading candidate to win a role in the dugout. Ince would be a popular choice amongst the Molineux faithful and it would appear early discussions with Moxey have been positive. "I was very pleased when I was asked by the chairman (Rick Hayward) to come and meet them and discuss my ideas,'' said Ince. "I have captained the club for four years and I would love the chance to take over as manager. ''I was extremely honest with them in regards to what I think needs to be done on the playing side. "I want to thank the fans for all their support and I hope to hear from the club soon."
Ince eyeing Molineux hot-seat
Paul Ince should on Wednesday formally enter the race to become the new manager of Wolves Ince, 38 - who has captained Wolves for the last four years - wants to make his first move into management as the successor to Glenn Hoddle. Former England boss Hoddle resigned last weekend, and Ince has quickly emerged as the man Wolves fans want to fill the hot-seat. His agent Steve Kutner has written to Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey. Kutner last night said of Ince: "Because he has had such overwhelming support from the fans, I have drawn up a letter confirming he would like to be considered for the manager's position. "Paul is flattered that people would like him to be the next manager of Wolves." Ince will be one of more than 20 applicants for the post, and Moxey said: "At the moment we are talking to him about playing for us again next season. "I will make him a final offer on the playing contract, and then we will address the other issue. "But Paul has made it clear he would be honoured to be considered for the manager's job." Ince has no managerial experience but has played for England, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Middlesbrough during a 21-year career. Moxey is keen to make a swift appointment, with the start of the new season little more than a month away, and he added: "As far as I am concerned we have to move quickly." Hoddle's departure from Wolves has, by his own standards, been a relatively quiet one. Hoddle kept the announcement he was ending his 19-month tenure as Wolves manager comparatively low key, simply stating: "My expectations and the club's have drifted too far apart and this decision has been made early for the benefit of the club." The former England boss met with Moxey yesterday to clarify his reasons for a decision which had left the Molineux supremo "disappointed and angry". The meeting exposed two major reasons for Hoddle's resignation; concerns over the club's budget and how he would be allowed to spend it, and the revelation that he "did not feel 100% behind the job", according to Moxey. Wolves fans suspicious of Hoddle eyeing a job elsewhere may have had their fears eased by the outcome of the meeting and Moxey himself accepted Hoddle's "version of events". Moxey told the club's official website: "When Glenn signed his contract 12 months ago, it was made clear that if we did not win promotion, because of the loss of parachute money and a likely fall in season ticket sales, the budget going into this season would have to be reduced." Moxey added of Hoddle: "He told me he has not had any other [job] offers. That is something we will address if it happens." If Hoddle decides to make a swift return to work, the managerial hotseat at Sunderland sits vacant, awaiting a coach with Premiership experience to take the club forward under the ownership of Niall Quinn's consortium
LEE NAYLOR - signs for Celtic to 2009 +1year
July 25th - Nayls signed off from Molineux with this message
Good Luck Wolves After wearing the gold and black of Wolves since he was a 14 year old schoolboy player, pulling on the green and white hoops of Celtic might have felt a bit odd for Old Firm new boy Lee Naylor. However, it was something of a back to the future moment! Lee, who has just left Wolves to sign a three year deal at Parkhead, actually began his footballing career wearing an identical kit to the one he will run out in tomorrow. "I was just six years old and played for a Sunday League team called Forest Star in New Invention," recalls Lee. "The kit was identical to the one I'll be wearing from now on. Perhaps it was an omen!" Lee is set to make his debut for his new club at home to Hibs. Although looking forward to the challenges of playing for one of football's biggest outfits - which will include a Champions League tie against Manchester United - he admits to having had mixed emotions when he arrived in Glasgow earlier this week. "This is a great opportunity at this stage of my career to come and play for a club like Celtic, but the last couple of days have felt weird," he says. "I signed for Wolves when I was 14 and I've never played anywhere else. I've never even been out on loan for a month to another club. "I grew up in the area and so I was a Wolves fan as well as a player. The club is always going to have a special place in my heart. I've got lots of friends there and I really hope they can do well this season." Lee was elevated from the Molineux youth ranks in October 1997 to make his first senior appearance at Birmingham City. Although still only 26 he was, until his transfer yesterday, the longest serving player in the Wolves team. In all, he had been signed to the club for 12 years. "There's lots of people at Molineux who have helped me in my career," he added. "Mark McGhee gave me my debut when I was 17 but I also have a lot to thank my youth team coaches Chris Evans, Rob Kelly and Chris Turner for. "Chris Turner really used to shout at me but I look back now and see it was all for the right reasons! "There have been some great moments during my nine years in the first team - the best was seeing the club into the Premier League. "For the players, fans and everybody at Wolves, that was a great day when we finally did it and won the play-off final. It was very special." Lee left Wolves yesterday to join former team mate Kenny Miller at Celtic. Always a popular figure in the dressing room, the defender has been showered with calls from players past and present wishing him the best of luck."Robbie Keane, Incey, Mark Kennedy and Bully have all called me today," he said. "They all wished me good luck for tomorrow, which is nice. "As for the lads at Wolves now, I'm really going to miss working with them. I'm leaving behind a great bunch and - although I've only worked with him for a short time - I think they have got a good manager who will do well for the club. "I'd like to wish everyone at Wolves the very best of luck for the season. I'll be looking out for the result
against Luton tomorrow."
July 24th: Celtic signed Lee until 2009 with a further year’s option. Celtic FC’s site says
Naylor at home in Paradise by David Friel
NEW Celtic signing Lee Naylor has revealed that he fulfilled a lifetime’s ambition by signing for the SPL Champions. Now, he is on a mission to collect as many winners’ medals as possible during his Hoops career. The 26-year-old looked genuinely thrilled to be at Celtic Park this afternoon after he completed his £600,000 transfer from Wolves. He has signed a three-year contract, with Celtic having the option of a further year. After spending ten years at Molineux, the former England Under-21 full-back insists the time was right to make a move to a club of Celtic’s stature. “I fulfilled an ambition by signing for Celtic and my new ambition is to win things,” said Naylor. “I’m absolutely delighted to be here. It’s a dream come true for me and it’s important that I keep progressing in my career. This is a massive step for me.” While fellow summer signing and former Wolves team-mate Kenny Miller undoubtedly played a part in luring Naylor north, the defender also had the privilege of being at the Championship club with two famous Celtic men – manager Mick McCarthy and former Hoops captain Jackie McNamara. Naylor admits they both spoke highly about the club, but insists he needed little convincing that he was making the right move. “They didn’t need to sell Celtic to me,” was Naylor’s instant response when asked about the influence of the former Hoops men. “The club speaks for itself. As soon as I knew Celtic were interested, I wanted to come here. “I had a good nine years at Wolves but I had to step forward and progress. I’m just looking forward to the challenge.” “I’ve come to Celtic to won trophies. I’ve got a few spare places in my cabinet and this is the place to fill them. It’s a massive club.” As part of the Naylor deal, Celtic youngster Charlie Mulgrew will travel in the opposite direction and Hoops chief executive Peter Lawwell wished the defender well. He said: “Charlie Mulgrew has gone the other way and we wish him all the best in his new start.”
Longest serving Wolves player, left back Lee Naylor has been told there is an interest in him from Celtic. A one and a half million price tag has been put on him. This is Lee’s 10th season as a pro at Molineux. Lee’s home kit is sponsored by London Wolves.
Celtic only offered £400k but upped the offer. Wolves are holding out for £600k plus a player... and Jez Moxey seems upset with Kenny Miller - as WoW indicates
Naylor A Target For Celtic Jez Moxey has reluctantly confirmed that Glasgow giants Celtic want to sign Wolves' long serving defender Lee Naylor. The chief executive has spoken out following comments made by the player's agent, Dave Baldwin who said: "Lee Naylor has played for Wolves for nine years and has been a loyal servant to this club. "Now, when he the chance to join one of the biggest clubs in the world and play Champions League football, he would hope that loyalty would be reciprocated." Jez responded: "I have deliberately remained silent on this issue but, given the conversations I have had with Lee Naylor and agents purporting to represent him, I feel it is time to put our position into the public domain. "A couple of weeks ago Celtic called out of the blue with a £400,000 offer for Lee. We believe that their interest was sparked by his former team mate at Wolves Kenny Miller. The verbal offer, which was subsequently made in writing, was immediately refused. "We have spent several months with Lee and his agents discussing terms of a new four year contract for him, and as the player knows, we agreed to the terms he said he wanted. "Three or four days ago Celtic made a second verbal offer - this time for £600,000 - but we again said that we didn't want to sell Lee. "However, as the player has told us that he is desperate to move to Celtic, we have reluctantly agreed to let him go providing Celtic can meet our valuation. We have told them that we will agree to their second cash offer plus one of three of their players in whom we are interested. "We really don't want Lee to leave Molineux but, given the position we are in, we are forced to take a pragmatic approach and Celtic know exactly what they have to do to obtain his services - the ball is in their court."
Charlie Mulgrew
Wolves have confirmed that the “swap” with Celtic for Lee Naylor brings in 20 year old Charlie Mulgrew - yet to proved himself at Celtic but showing potential. Gordon Strachan described Charlie as the “missing link” (not another one!) in February in this BBC report
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has challenged defender Charlie Mulgrew to prove his first-team credentials during his loan spell at Dundee United. "We're definitely keeping a very close eye on Charlie and we've been pleased with him," he told Celtic's website. "He still needs to work on some weaknesses in his game, but he deserves all the praise he's been receiving at the moment. "I'm delighted it's going well for him because I like his attitude." Mulgrew has earned plaudits for his displays at left-back with the Tangerines since joining the club until the end of the campaign. Celtic have, meanwhile, had problems at left-back this season.
Mo Camara, Ross Wallace and Mark Wilson have all played in the position and Strachan hopes that Mulgrew can prove to be the missing link. "He can do well in the Scottish Premier League and the next challenge for Charlie when he comes back will be to prove that he can play and do well for Celtic," he said. "There's a desire there to prove that he can play at the top level and, so far with United, he's doing very well."
Charlie’s record
Defender Charlie Mulgrew, who has already made one Scotland Under-21 appearance. He is a defender, playing mainly at left back.
Having progressed through Celtic's youth system, Mulgrew turned professional in July 2002. By January 2006 he had yet to make his debut for the club's first team, so in order for him to gain competitive experience he was loaned out to fellow SPL side Dundee United for the remainder of the 2005–06 season. A successful spell saw him feature regularly for United, scoring 2 goals in 14 appearances and being named SPL Young Player of the Month for February. [1] He then returned to Celtic hoping to force his way into first team contention untill moving to Wolves, where he hopes for more opportunities to prove himself.
He has represented Scotland at all levels up to and including Under-21 international.

Darren Potter
Liverpool midfielder Darren Potter has undergone a medical ahead of a season-long loan switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Republic of Ireland youth international, who spent a spell with Southampton in The Championship last season, has taken the necessary tests at Molineux and is likely to seal his switch in the coming days. Potter featured in The Reds' UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign at the start of last season but was unable to break into Rafa Benitez's Premiership plans. After first catching Wolves boss Mick McCarthy's eye during his time at St Mary's, Potter is now on the brink of joining the former Sunderland boss at his new club. "Darren is here and he's having his scans," McCarthy told the club's official website. "He's a talented player and we're hoping to wrap things up on his loan pretty soon. "I watched him last year when he was playing for Southampton and he impressed me. "He did excellently. He's a modern-day central midfielder, he is young and hungry and we are happy to see him here at Wolves."
Liverpool profile: Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Darren Potter ended the 2005/06 season on loan at Championship side Southampton. Potter was given his Liverpool debut by Rafael Benitez in the Champions League qualifier with Graz in August 2004. A creative central midfield player, Potter came on as a substitute in the first leg in Austria then made his full debut in the second leg 1-0 defeat. He saw regular action in the Carling Cup run in 2004 and made 10 appearances in the 2004/05 season. Potter is a former Liverpool schoolboy's captain who was once with Everton but the Blues didn't take the option to sign him. Potter is a highly rated central midfield player who has a good eye for a pass. He has progressed from the Academy and has been a regular member of the reserve side, under the close influence of Hughie McAuley
Jemal Johnson
On trial on Tuesday 21 year old Jemal Johnson had 8 goal attempts and clearly impressed “Reserve” team coach Terry Connor such that Wolves have made an offer which Blackburn accepted 16th August.
Jemal was born in the USA but moved from America to Macclesfield at the age of five and was on Manchester United's books before joining the Rovers' Academy. A small but speedy striker, Jemal his senior debut as a substitute in the FA Cup third round tie at Cardiff City in January 2005 and appeared in the Premiership for the first time against Bolton sixteen days later. Jemal scored his first senior goal in Rovers' FA Cup fourth round victory over Colchester United and made a couple of substitute appearances before the young striker spent the remainder of the 2005/06 season on loan at Darlington scoring four times

David Wheater - Loan deal cut short
Loan deal cut short for Wheater Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has decided to send on-loan Middlesbrough defender David Wheater back to his parent club. Wheater will travel back to the Riverside Stadium after completing only half of his proposed two-month stint at Molineux. The 19-year-old made only one first-team appearance for Wolves and McCarthy said it was unfair to keep the teenager in the midlands if he was not going to be playing.
"David Wheater is going back - he is not playing in the first team which was the reason he came down," said the Molineux chief. "It is never guaranteed of course, but he has not been able to get in. "If he is only going to be playing in the reserves and training, he might as well do it up there."Young centre back David (Wheats) Wheater came in on a 3 month loan from Middlesborough seeking first team football. MFC.com said
YOUNG defender David Wheater is set to join Coca-Cola Championship side Wolves on a three-month loan. The highly-rated Redcar-born centre-half is training with the Midlands club with a view to completing a deal later this week. "I am delighted he's coming here," said Wolves boss Mick McCarthy. "We need more players in this department." Wheater, who is dominant in the air and has a habit of scoring vital goals, has represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels. If all goes to plan he could make his debut in Wolves' trip to Cardiff City on Saturday
Wheats was pleased to be met by fellow International Mark Davies at Compton to show him round.
Danny Senda
Danny, left back or midfielder and Wycombe’s Captain under John Gorman, as the Chairboys were pipped for promotion back to the 1st Division has been released and after an unsuccessful trial at Luton plays in a trial match on Tuesday night. He was at the Moli on Friday night, and was clearly not overimpressed with our performance againts Preston. Danny did OK according to Mick McC but Terry Connor said he improved after moving from midfield to full back.
Lowe understands lack of action
Wolves defender Keith Lowe has assured Brighton manager Mark McGhee there are no hard feelings after a wasted loan spell at Withdean The 20-year-old was an unused substitute in each of the Seagulls' five League One fixtures so far this season. But after returning to Molinuex, Lowe said: "I went there to play football but, basically, I came back with what I left with. "To be fair Mark McGhee stressed he didn't get me there under false pretences, it was just the way things panned out. "Mark told me on the day before the first game of the season he was going to put me on the bench as I hadn't really had time to gel with the team. "Then Brighton kept a clean sheet in that match and the next one too and it meant I didn't get a look in."
Gary Breen
32 year old Gary Breen has signed a 2 year contract from Sunderland on a free.
Craig Davies
Wolves have beaten Northampton to the signing of Verona’s Craig Davies, according to Cobblers boss John Gorman. Gorman has spent weeks courting the 20-year-old striker but is now resigned to the Welshman heading to Molineux instead. “It’s disappointing but I was told Wolves have got him - we got that from his agent,” Gorman told Northampton’s official website
Jamie Clapham
WoW confirms that Jamie has been offered a contract and is having a medical (31/7)

Jay Bothroyd
Mick McCarthy moved quickly to secure jay Bothroyd on afree from Charlton. Jay had had impressive trials with Palace, but the contract offer was slow in coming. Jay said on Midlands Today how much he was lookinf forward to leading the line.
Kevin Nicholls
Wolves were rumoured to have put a £400,000 offer in for Luton captain and combatative midfielder Kevin Nicholls but he joined Leeds for £600,000 and was promptly injured and is out for some weeks.
The 27 year old has a good goalscoring record and scored the equaliser against us at Kenilworth Road last season.
Lowe set for Robins loan
Wolves defender Keith Lowe is set to join Cheltenham on a one-month loan when the loan window reopens on Friday. Lowe, who last week returned to Molineux after a frustrating spell at Brighton where he failed to make a single senior appearance, will go straight into the Robins squad which takes on Huddersfield at Whaddon Road on Saturday. Cheltenham boss John Ward, formerly an assistant manager at Wolves, has also been granted permission to select the 20-year-old for Town's Carling Cup second round clash with West Brom at The Hawthorns on Tuesday week
Stephen Pearson
Wolves have also been named in Scotland as one of the Championship clubs tailing another left-side man, Celtic's Stephen Pearson. But the 23-year-old is also being linked to Crystal Palace and Derby.
Board - Moxey apologises for no chairman - blaming SJH
Moxey urges fans to stay patient
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has assured fans the club remains stable despite the lack of a chairman. Rick Hayward, son of owner Sir Jack, resigned as chairman in July with director Paul Manduca also stepping down. Meanwhile, local businessmen Kevin Threlfall and John Gough were appointed to the board although the position of chairman still remains vacant. Moxey said: "Appointing a new chairman is an issue we want to resolve and it's being driven by Sir Jack so I'm sure it'll be sorted out in due course. "But it has no massive significance on the running of the business - we have to remember Wolves are owned 100% by Sir Jack. "The business continues to be run by an executive team of managers with myself as full-time executive reporting to the owner."
Board Changes 31/7/06

Blues and City join race for McLeod
Manchester City and Birmingham have joined West Brom and Wolves in the race to sign highly-rated MK Dons striker Izale McLeod. Blues boss Steve Bruce is in the hunt for fresh blood having released a raft of players following the club's relegation. And although City chief Stuart Pearce is on the verge of recruiting veteran Paul Dickov on a free transfer, he wants the pace of McLeod to provide back-up for Darius Vassell. Birmingham-born McLeod is widely expected to leave the National Hockey Stadium this summer after his 18 goals proved not enough to save the Dons from relegation to League Two. And his form has attracted envious glances from a string of clubs, including Black Country rivals Wolves and the Baggies. The 21-year-old almost became a Wolves player in January after they agreed a £600,000 deal, rising to £1.3m, with Milton Keynes before switching their attention to Tomasz Frankowski. But boss Glenn Hoddle has continued to monitor McLeod's progress and wants him to spearhead a promotion charge at Molineux. Albion boss Bryan Robson, meanwhile, feels the England Under-21 international could form an explosive partnership with Nathan Ellington, as veteran forwards Kanu and Kevin Campbell could well leave The Hawthorns this summer.
Brazilians Soares & Finkler
Brazilians Jay Soares and Guilherme Finkler who both are available on “frees” have impressed in training and Finkler scored twice in the friendly at Hednessford. watch the free kick more on WoW site
18July - One player that has failed to impress the Championship side is Brazilian trialist Jeronimo Soares.
Soares and fellow countryman Guilherme Finkler joined Wolves for their pre-season trip to Spain earlier this month and featured in friendlies against Hednesford Town and AFC Telford United.
Soares will move on to pastures new, while midfielder Finkler's trial has been extended with the club
Peter Whittingham
Wolves are reported to have made a £500,000 bid for Aston Villa midfielder Peter Whittingham who burst on the scene two seasons ago but has been rather quiet recently. He does seem a good replacement for Mark Kennedy, if he also has good defensive skills....his full debut was at left back Villa’s profile of him....
Peter Whittingham Nationality: English Date of Birth: 08/09/1984 Height:5' 10" (178cm)Weight:9st 13lbs (63.1kg) Previous Clubs:Derby County (loan), Burnley (loan)Position:Midfielder Having exploded on to the Premiership scene the previous year, it was very much a case of treading water for Peter Whittingham in 2004-05. The promising young midfielder was regularly in the squad during the first half of the season, and although he made only a handful of starting appearances he was regularly involved as a substitute. But after being on the bench for the New Year bank holiday game at Crystal Palace, he didn't figure again in the senior side and at one stage spent a month on loan at Championship club Burnley. While his first team appearances were limited, though, he did at least have the satisfaction of creating a small piece of Premiership history when he opened the scoring in the 3-0 home win over Portsmouth. It was the first goal scored with the new high visibility ball which was used during the winter months. Whittingham made a real impact in David O'Leary's first season at the helm. The England Under-21 international may have ended the campaign on the bench, but he impressed as he started 21 of the first 22 Premiership games before being withdrawn from the spotlight. But time is definitely on Whittingham's side and the hope is that he can build on an impressive first full season that saw him named Villa's Young Player of the Year.Whittingham became the fourth member of the FA Youth Cup-winning team to discover the number was up - in the best possible way. The versatile youngster joined Stefan Moore, Liam Ridgewell and Wayne Henderson in being handed a first team squad number as the club continued to encourage youngsters to make the breakthrough to Premiership football. He signed a four year contract in 2002 and was a regular in the reserves before making the first team bench, coming on for three consecutive games against Newcastle United, Everton and Sunderland before playing his first first team full game at left back against Leeds United.
Blues to spark Calum scramble
Birmingham are ready to battle with Charlton, Reading and Wolves for the signature of Tottenham centre-back Calum Davenport Blues boss Steve Bruce is expected to follow up his initial interest in the Spurs player with a firm bid. The £1.5million-rated defender is keen to resurrect his career after an unhappy spell at White Hart Lane. Davenport has found first-team opportunities hard to come by because of the form of England pair Ledley King and Michael Dawson at the heart of the Spurs defence. However, Blues could face competition from the Addicks, Royals and Wolves for the 23-year-old
Milan Mandaric Rumours
Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric has denied he is planning a £15million takeover of Wolves Mandaric has moved to end rumours of an approach for the Championship club by insisting a recent conversation with Wolves owner Sir Jack Hayward was only made as a friend. "I talk to Sir Jack Hayward regularly because we get on well. But it's only to chat," he told The News. "Because I'm selling Pompey, people have put two and two together. But I'm not in talks about buying into Wolves." Mandaric will hand over ownership of Pompey to Sacha Gaydamak this month after agreeing a £32million deal for the club, but may remain as non-executive chairman. The 67-year-old insists he has no immediate intention of investing in another club should he leave Fratton Park entirely, but that situation could change in the future. "If I leave Pompey altogether, then one day I might get involved with someone else. But it's not happening now," he added.
Ian Pearce
The 32-year-old has one year left on his current contract at Craven Cottage, but a summer move could be in the offing. Pearce moved to Fulham from West Ham in 2004 and has played an important part ever since. However, manager Chris Coleman is believed to be looking for fresh faces and Pearce could very well find himself surplus to requirement. Should Pearce be on the move then he is unlikely to be short on offers with Wigan, Wolves and Birmingham all reported to be considering a move
Wolves complete deal for ace Rosa
Hungarian midfielder Denes Rosa has agreed a three-year deal to join Wolves on a permanent basis. The former Ferencvaros player, 29, had been on a short-term deal at Molineux since January and has impressed manager Glenn Hoddle sufficiently to earn a new deal. He told Wolves' official website: "I am very happy that I have been able to agree a new contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers. "I was aware of interest from other clubs but I have enjoyed my time at Wolves and was keen to stay. "I look forward to being part of a team that pushes for promotion next season." Rosa made 10 appearances for Wolves last term, scoring two goals.
Glenn Hoddle resigns
1st July 2006 - as England exit the World Cup Glenn Hoddle phones Moxey to resign. Although they are meeting on Monday this may also spell the end for Paul Ince unless he’s offered the job.
Statement from Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey re manager Glenn Hoddle.
"I had an unexpected call from the manager Glenn Hoddle at about 3 o'clock this afternoon (Saturday). He told me he was resigning with immediate effect. "I asked him to reconsider but he said that his mind was made up. However, he did agree to meet with me on Monday. "We will issue a further statement in due course."
In a statement released by his representatives to the media this afternoon, Glenn is reported saying: "I wish to announce my decision, with immediate effect, to resign as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. "It has been a very difficult decision but I feel that my expectations and the club's expectations have drifted too far apart in recent weeks. This decision has been made early in pre-season for the benefit of the club. "I would like to take the opportunity of thanking the board, players, staff and fans for their support and efforts and wish everyone connected with Wolverhampton Wanderers every success in the future."

Joleon Signs For Everton 14th June 2006
So Jo’s first match for Everton, as he had been sick for a couple of weeks, turned out to be against Kenny Miller’s Celtic, who won 1-0, and Jo was the defender who couldn’t get to the shot (not Kenny’s!). Both were impressive.
Fans are already asking why Joleon is worth only £2m upfront - only marginally more than flop Tomasz Frankowski - when Everton have only just paid £8.6m for Andy Johnson - it looks like a very very bad deal - giving us no strengthening cash freedom
From WoW. Joleon Lescott has finally completed his move from Wolves to Everton. The Merseysiders will pay up to £5m, plus a 15% share of any sell-on fee, for the services of the defender who has signed a four-year contract at Goodison. The move was initially delayed because key officials at Everton were away from the club, and then as a result of Everton's concern over the player's long term fitness. However, after further negotiations, the transfer has now been completed with Wolves agreeing to defer the final instalment of the fee for an additional six months from the date initially agreed, and make it subject to the player not retiring from football within 30 months due to any pre-existing condition relating to his knee operations. Chief executive Jez Moxey explained: "Wolves will receive £2m upfront, plus another £2m to be paid in instalments over the next two and a half years subject to Joleon continuing to play football. The remaining £1m is subject to player appearances." Whilst satisfied with the commercial terms of the deal - which Wolves concede has taken a lot longer to conclude than expected - Jez acknowledged that the club was saying goodbye to a firm fans' favourite. The CEO paid tribute to the 23-year-old, who has been a key player at Molineux since his debut in the 2000/2001 season, and explained how his transfer fee will support Wolves' finances following the loss of the parachute payment. He said: "Joleon has given his all to Wolves since he joined our academy as a 14-year-old and if there's any player who deserves a chance to play in the Premier League, it's him. "When he signed a new contract in October last season, we had a gentlemen's agreement that if we did not get promoted, and he wanted to join a Premiership club, then we would reluctantly sell him to the club that presented the best option for Joleon to further his career and one that could afford to pay us an acceptable transfer fee. "Had we won promotion, Joleon would have happily stayed at Molineux. However, after we failed to achieve our stated goal of returning to the Premiership, we knew there would be interest from a number of top-flight clubs wishing to sign him. We were approached by four clubs who made serious offers and finally agreed a deal with Everton. "Joleon has been an outstanding player for Wolves - we regret that he is leaving and that he never had the opportunity to play for Wolves in the Premier League in 2003/04 because had he been fit that season who knows where we would have finished. However, he returned to play in more games than any other Wolves player in the next two seasons, playing in all 50 matches last season. We have never had any doubts whatsoever about his fitness." "He leaves with our very best wishes and thanks for everything he has helped Wolves achieve. He will, of course, be missed but we are sure he will develop into an exceptionally good Premiership player for Everton." The fee received for the former England U21 international will be important, given the new financial parameters within which the club has to work. Jez adds: "Bearing in mind the loss of the Premiership parachute payment the money raised through this transfer will help secure the club's financial stability. "Our future strategy is clear: the team will have to include some younger players who really want to wear the Wolves shirt and prove themselves good enough to compete strongly in the Championship. "No doubt some of the transfer fee will be used to support this aim and help us bring in new players but there is also a need to protect the club's overall financial position now and in the future."
Chris Cornes
Sept 06 Five months into Chris’ ban Wolves announced that his contract was being terminated by mutual consent. In a terse statement a Wolves spokesman said: "It is in the best interests of both parties the player pursues his career elsewhere." contrasting with the supportive stance earlier.
July 06
Chris was given a six month ban after a random test at the training ground revealed traces of a cocaine substance. The ban is backdated to April. He strenuously denied knowingly taking a banned substance but the “strict liability” rules take no account of this. His future at Molineux is now in doubt and will be considered at the next board meeting. Chris looked a strong young prospect and we were looking forward to seeing him in the first team this season.
It was very pleasing to see that the board have decided to support Chris - whilst warning him severely about his future conduct and we look forward to seeing him in first team action this season. His suspension lasts until October.
Mark Douglas wrote in the E&S Wolves have terminated the contract of young striker Chris Cornes - just weeks before his six-month ban for testing positive for cocaine was due to finish.
The 19-year-old’s contract was terminated yesterday, with the club saying the decision was reached by “mutual consent”.
Molineux bosses are staying tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding his departure, but have confirmed it is not related to another drugs offence.
The Academy graduate, who rose to prominence during the FA Youth Cup run of 2005, was under contract until the summer of 2008. Cornes was originally banned after a random drugs test in February found traces of metabolite of cocaine in his sample.
The Worcester-born forward denied knowingly taking the drug, but, under the terms of the FA’s strict liability rule, whereby any player producing a positive test is guilty of a breach of doping regulations, Cornes received an automatic ban.
The club decided to stand by Cornes after he was banned, and the player has trained with the first-team squad and carried out work with the Football in the Community department during his mandatory ban.
After news of the drug ban was first revealed in Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said Cornes would be dismissed if “the player is unable to demonstrate to the club and its supporters that he is a model professional from this point onwards”.
A club statement said: “It has now been decided that it is in the best interests of both parties that the player pursues his career elsewhere.”
Cornes didn’t make a first team appearance during his Molineux career but spent three months at loan at Port Vale in 2005, scoring four goals in 11 games
Squad down to 14 fit pros - Steve Marshall of the Express & Star
Wolves back with just fourteen By Steve Marshall Jun 23, 2006 http://www.expressandstar.com/articles/sport/wolves/article_91410.php Wolves are poised to return to pre-season training on Monday with only 14 fit outfield players with Molineux first team experience on their books. It paints an all too real picture of the summer culture change at the club that chief executive Jez Moxey warned about when Wolves' Championship chalenge crumbled last season. A total of 17 senior players are currently contracted to Wolves, but Matt Murray and Michael Oakes are both goalkeepers and defender Gabor Gyepes could miss the whole campaign through injury. That leaves 14 - but with question marks over the future of Seol Ki-Hyeon, who has spelled out his desire to move to the Premiership after the World Cup, and the fitness of Seyi Olofinjana and Mark Clyde. Olofinjana is currently recovering from a back injury which wrecked his last campaign, while Clyde hasn't kicked a ball for the first team in almost 17 months.
And although the squad is bolstered by nine untried academy youngsters, it leaves boss Glenn Hoddle thin on the ground in terms of experience when he returns after his summer break. Re-signing captain Paul Ince and vice-captain Mark Kennedy would help add vital knowhow to the ranks - but Kennedy in particular is by no means certain to agree new terms. Moxey today Wolves' situation meant the club's youngsters would get the chance to prove their worth, but insisted they were looking to recruit new faces before the new season kicks-off. "When you buy lots of players there is less opportunity for the youngsters," said Moxey. "But we are now faced with a situation where we won't put football before finance, so by definition the young kids have more of a chance prove themselves to the manager and stake a claim for a place in the team. "We recognise that the squad we are starting pre-season with won't be sufficient in numbers because of the injuries and suspensions that we will inevitable face. "As a result Glenn and I will be looking to bring in several players before the season starts." Nine players from last season's squad have so far left Wolves, with the sale of Joleon Lescott to Everton the only transfer fee coming in. Hoddle has been promised some of that cash for his playing budget, but will be unable to go on a big-money spending spree.
Here's how some of Wolves' rivals measure up: * Albion - 16 senior players contracted, trying to retain Campbell and Watson and sign Hartson and Roberts. * Blues - 20 senior players, including new signings Jerome and Danns. * Leeds - 20 senior players * Sunderland - 20 senior players. * Palace - 21 senior players.

Wolves pull plug on reserves
Wolves have scrapped their reserve team, citing changes to the structure of the league and a danger of over-playing youngsters as the reasons, Wanderers' second string finished fourth bottom in last season's Premier Reserve League (north) but only Premiership sides will be allowed to play in that competition during 2006-07. Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We expect that next season more of our young professionals will be either involved in the first-team squad or will be gaining first-team experience out on loan. "Given there's also a 28-game Academy league programme to fulfil, we felt there was a danger of overplaying our youngsters if we also entered a reserve competition. "This approach worked successfully for Derby County last season and other Midland clubs are likely to take this course, in fact Leicester have already said they will not play in a reserve league. "Reserve-team coach Terry Connor will continue to be involved in the coaching of the club's young pros and will take responsibility for arranging friendly games."
John Richards
John Richards answered fans’ questions on Gavin’s Wolf-fan-site forum during September - click here - (you may need to register) eg Posted by Mr Wolf: Thanks for the memories JR....saw you play in some cracking games in my youth (and score some cracking goals) and you were always an absolute gent when it came to autographs !! My question: "You had a number of great strike partners over the years...but apart from those players that you actually partnered, which other Wolves player from a different era did/do you most admire and why" And John’s reply
Difficult question, particularly as I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the greats from the fifties. I never saw any of them play, but Billy Wright, Bill Slater, Bert Williams, Peter Broadbent etc. can only be described as gentlemen and fantastic ambassadors for Wolves. From conversations with supporters, they have a high regard for Peter Broadbent as a quality player; from my experience he was equally as impressive as a person. In more recent times, the contribution of Steve Bull cannot be overstated, particularly as it was such a difficult time for the club.

Mark Kennedy to Palace - Eagles to snap up free agent Kennedy
Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor is set to bring experienced Wolves midfielder Mark Kennedy to Selhurst Park on a free transfer. The Republic of Ireland international has turned down a new two-year deal at the club, and new Eagles boss Peter Taylor wants Kennedy as the club aim for promotion back to the Premiership. Kennedy was once the most expensive teenager in British football when he moved from Millwall to Liverpool in 1995 for £2.5million. He has made 187 ppearances for Wolves, scoring 14 goals.
Meanwhile Carl Cort’s brother Leon, having made the move to Palace, says how great it would be to play together and is encouraging Carl to make the move.
Molineux exits for Wolves quartet
Wolves have released Darren Anderton, Stefan Postma, Maurice Ross and Vio Ganea but are holding talks with Paul Ince about extending his stay.Wanderers confirmed this week that manager Glenn Hoddle would continue in his role despite the Black Country club missing out on the Championship play-offs. And the former England boss has decided to release 34-year-old former England international Anderton, ex-Aston Villa goalkeeper Postma, full-back Ross and Romania international Ganea. However, 38-year-old Ince and fellow midfielders Denes Rosa, Colin Cameron and Mark Kennedy - all out of contract this summer - will hold talks with the club. Chief executive Jez Moxey has warned Wolves will be forced to operate on a tight budget after the end of their 'parachute payments' following relegation from the Premiership two seasons ago, and said: "We will be entering into talks with Paul, Denes, Colin and Mark to explain our plans for the future but, at this stage, there are no guarantees that we will be re-signing any of them." Kenny Miller will join Celtic this summer on a Bosman free transfer and fellow striker George Ndah has been forced into early retirement because of injury.

Royal Seol Ki-Hyeon - Transfer Fee Agreed with Reading
Wolves have agreed a fee with Reading for the sale of Seol Ki-Hyeon.
The deal will be £1mil plus £500,000 depending on appearances. There is also a sell-on clause. The Korean international, who has recently been on World Cup duty, could make the switch to the newly promoted Premiership side when he returns to England early next week. "We have agreed a fee but the deal will of course be subject to a medical," says Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey.
Seol, 27 signed for Wolves for £1.2 mil from RSC Anderlecht in August 2004. His contract at Molineux would have expired in the summer of 2008. Last season he made 36 appearances (ten from the bench) and scored four goals. Whilst with his national team in Germany, Seol recently expressed his frustration with Wolves not winning promotion to the top flight. Jez adds: "Seol is a good person and a good player but he never made the impact on the pitch that we were hoping when we signed him from Anderlecht. "He has publicly and privately expressed his wish to leave Wolves to play in the Premier League. We had two offers from Premiership clubs and some interest from Germany as well, but it was Reading who offered a deal that both the player and Wolves found acceptable.
"We wish him well." Seol will go down in Wolves history as the scorer of the 7,000th goal as Wolves were the first team to reach that number when he scored from a cross at Crystal Palace in 2005.
Wolves ace Silas set for Wolves exit
Portuguese midfielder Silas looks set to leave Wolves in the summer, after falling out of favour Molineux. The 29-year-old's current deal is due to run out and although Wolves have the option of extending it for another 12 months, chief executive Jez Moxey is expecting him to be released. Signed for £1million from Uniao Leiria in the summer of 2003, Silas managed just five starts and nine substitute appearances for Wanderers. And has not kicked a ball for the Midlanders since February 2004 after joining Maritimo and then Belenenses on season-long loans. Moxey said: "The option for the manager to sign Silas for next season is there. "But at this stage, I'd say it's highly unlikely that will happen."
Agent in Gyepes deal fined by FIFA
Guilty Agent's blow for FA Joe Bernstein (MoS)
Joe reports 5th November that the Football Association's war on rogue agents is being undermined by an agent who has kept his FIFA licence depsite pleading guilty in court to false accounting. Sam Stapleton admitted instructing Wolves to pay £60,000 into his personal bank account as commission in a deal which took Hungarian Gabor Gyepes to Molineux in 2005. He was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay Wolves nearly £2,000 in compensation, but he has retained his FIFA licence - which is process by the FA - despite his conviction. The FA will meet police this week to see if they can revoke Stapleton's licence.
INJURY STATUS
2006-2007
November 2006.
Rosa injury jinx strikes again
Wolves midfielder Denes Rosa has suffered another injury setback after straining a hamstring in a behind-closed-doors friendly The 29-year-old scored the second goal in the hosts' 2-1 win over Macclesfield but was forced to limp out of the action. Rosa's injury is the latest setback to afflict the Hungarian, with previous groin and knee problems restricting him to just one first-team appearance this season.
Rosa, who signed a three-year contract at Molineux in time for the start of the current campaign, scored two goals in 10 outings last season after originally joining on trial from Ferencvaros.
Meanwhile, compatriot Gabor Gyepes remains sidelined as he continues to recover from cruciate knee ligament surgery.
Carl Cort is looking likely to need yet another knee operation.
Jackie McNamara finally made it to bench duty but was not used against Hull City. We need him back!
Jackie McNamara 2nd September 2006
McNamara awaits test results
Wolves defender Jackie McNamara is sweating on the results of tests to determine the severity of his latest injury. The Scotsman sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury just nine games into last season. A rapid recovery from the inevitable surgery saw McNamara make two appearances before the end of the 2005-06 term but he had yet to feature for Wolves in the current campaign before falling victim to a hip injury. His latest setback has kept the 32-year-old out of training and McNamara is now set to meet specialists on Monday. Meanwhile, Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey is expecting the transfer deadline to pass quietly at Molineux. He said: "We don't envisage any further business, but we'll continue to do what we can to strengthen the squad through loans or in the January transfer window."
Gyepes facing third op
Sep 2006 Gabor Gyepes is facing the prospect of a third round of knee surgery before he can step up his recovery from cruciate ligament damage . The Hungarian sustained the injury in March and then went under the knife as the ligament was repaired. But another operation was needed last month to clear away scar tissue from the original procedure with the club now confirming a second clean-up might also be needed. Gyepes said: "I don't know exactly when I can go back to training, but I would like to think I could be moved up to the next stage of recovery by Christmas. "The knee isn't really painful, it's just stiff which makes it difficult to train hard because it stops me doing some exercises. "I have good days and bad days, but the knee is definitely getting better."
Wolves' Gyepes faces lengthy layoff
Wolves boss Glenn Hoddle believes defender Gabor Gyepes could be facing up to a year on the sidelines after cruciate knee ligament surgery. The 24-year-old went under the knife in London this week after first sustaining injury during the 3-1 Molineux defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last month. Hoddle said: "Gabor has had his operation, which was a very big operation, and it's going to be anywhere between six and 12 months before he's back. "We wish him well and he's on the road to recovery already."
Meanwhile, Hoddle added that Jackie McNamara, who is on the way back from cruciate surgery, would not be rushed back into action. "Jackie's had a few reserve-team appearances but we're just going to have to wait to get him a little bit sharper," he said.
Finkler on road to recovery
Guilherme Finkler has taken an important step on the road to recovery after featuring for Wolves in a behind-closed-doors clash with Coventry The Brazilian joined Wanderers in time for the start of the season after a successful summer trial but a groin injury has so far kept the 20-year-old out of first-team action. Finkler came on as a substitute in the game, which Coventry won 2-1, but Sunday's game against Leeds at Elland Road is likely to come too soon for him. There was also an outing for Charlie Mulgrew who was making his first appearance in a Wanderers shirt since arriving from Celtic as a makeweight in the transfer deal which took Lee Naylor in the opposite direction.
Kenny Miller, who left at the end of the 2005-6 season on a free to Celtic, scored his most famous goal when bottom club Wolves beat top club Manchester United on 19th January 2004.
